@3:55 open hats will close if you have a closed hat following it on the next beat because Roland uses a drum engine and not just straight up sample sequences. So, if you remove the closed hat on the next beat it will ring out the full open hat.

I've had a JdXI for a while, and I really love it. I've never dug into the groove box capabilities of it but wow, this thing is a real monster. Great work!

Didn't know that there's also a red edition existing of this. I've got the usual black one and I've always loved the all white version but this red one looks kinda gorgeous as well! Nice video by the way. The JD-Xi is one of the most underrated and powerful synths/workstations/grooveboxes/DAW-controllers/best-value-live-on-stage-workhorses on the market. Most people simply don't get the concept and do not realise the quality and versatility of this little Jack of all trades and the numerous different ways to use it. Former band members used to laugh at the "toy-piano" I brought to the rehearsals until they realised that I literally had just put the equivalent to two JP-8000 (or more precisely GAIAs, the JP only has two OSCs), a Mother32 (sort of), half a dozen MC and TR groovemachines, a Vocoder and the basic essence of an Integra7 on the chassis of my stage piano giving me 37 additional keys and a pitch/modwheel on the far end of the 88-keys. Not to mention the vocoder, which I don't really use. But the best part was telling the drummer that he most likely had paid ten times more for his drumkit than I did for the toy piano that btw could easily replace him in case he'd be going on making jokes about it. Laughingly he kneeled down and prayed to the great Roland to always be on good terms with him, promising to worship and always provide the best electricity for the small but omnipotent toy piano... XD

I love this synth. I actually made a really crazy old school boom bap/sinewave hard beat on this. It's on my channel. I found the piano sound to be super useful for carrying the crazy bass.

I love that Strings 1 patch, and I use that and this bell sound in a lot of the beats that I have on the Roland JD-XI. Hey Joey, have you ever exported patterns from the JD-XI into a computer, and then put those patterns back into the JD-XI? The reason that I am asking is because I am scared to take existed beats, put them into the computer in those bin files, and then them not exporting back into the unit itself...because they can only be played on the JD-XI itself? If so, do you know of any other way to play those bin files other than having to put them back into the JD-XI to do so? I need to free up space, and this is why I haven't been on it lately, because I have to keep erasing other patterns to make new one's, otherwise I would use this thing 95 percent of the time. I still can't believe how much this unit can do, and how I went from liking, to not being sure, to not liking it, and then eventually loving it permanently. I wish Roland would provide us with some more and better sounds though. The one's that they put on the website to download from a long time ago just sound like the other sounds from the unit layered on top of each other. This is a real bummer for such a versatile synth. Is there any updates you may know about that I don't, just let me know. I got so much music on this thing, but I just having been putting it out. Roland needs to make a second version of this machine, with the same setup, but some upgrades on the hardware and capabilities. I would probably use this if that was so, but it's much better than what most think it is. Later on there...SBN RESONATE
