Eva - any idea how you'd make a mold to pour ceramic cheese molds where you'd want small holes in the sides and bottom of the poured 4" and 6" round mold? I was trying to think of how to create a mold with protrusions on the inside that will extend further than the thickness of the poured slip, then carving them off flush inside the green vase - this opening the holes.

Love this! Now my question is, could I use this to actually store juice and other drinks?
@evastalinski.
@evastalinski. 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ana! That all depends on what type of glaze you use and how high you fire it. There's a lot of discussion online about what constitutes a truly 'food-safe' ceramic item and to be honest I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject, that's why I never claim to make food safe items. I know it is ideal when a jug like this is sintered, this prevents bacteria being able to grow in small crevices, which seems to be the most important thing along with a non toxic glaze.

Thank you so much! If you're talking about the thickness of the liquid plaster, I usually aim for a runny yoghurt consistency. As long as it's not too watery or very gloopy it should be fine.

It’s just plaster of Paris or you can use a product called 100% Casting Plaster. The second solution she uses is slip. It is watered down clay with a few other chemicals in it.

Hi Eva, thanks for the helpful video! One question that bothers me: Do you apply the soap to the wooden boards? Or do they come off fine without soap? Thank you so much for your great work! 😊
@evastalinski.
@evastalinski. 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jana, thanks! I'm glad you found it helpful. I just soap the plaster since plaster sticks to itself which can make it hard to pry the two halves apart. I've always been able to pull the wood from the plaster easily without soap.

The brown mud looking stuff over ceramic clay. The brown water looking stiff is called slip and that is watered down clay with a few other chemicals in it that make the molded piece that comes out.

@micheledickey4066 3 жыл бұрын
You really have to be very careful doing this. The dish soap isn’t enough to keep it from sticking to the mold. I would use cooking spray and quite a bit of it. Use it to make a small piece first and see how it goes and then go on to something harder.

Hello, thanks for the great video! i have a question, i can't open my mold with poured, it has been resting for 3 days already. what did i do wrong, is there a trick :( Sorry for the Bad English
@evastalinski.
@evastalinski. Жыл бұрын
Hi Anni! Molds can be tricky like that, my best advice would be to pry a dull knife (like a butterknife/one you don't mind ruining) in between your mold parts and wiggle it around and apply a bit of pressure. This will usually cause the seal to break, but if you're not careful you can also damage the mold. I would also say three days is probably a bit too long to leave the slip in your mold, depending on what your mold looks like of course. Speaking from my own experience I usually try to un-mold small pieces a few hours after casting them and wait a full 24 hours for larger pieces. Hope this helps, let me know how it goes if you end up trying it!
