John, I've been following you for well over a year now and I follow a lot of woodworkers on KZfaq but you my friend are my favorite. You are one of the few left that do actual build projects and give real world tips and tricks that I've used many times. Keep up the great work and I always look forward to your new stuff but I still go back and watch your old videos.

Man, John you really are one awesome guy. I love how you don't rely on the big brands to solve your fixes. If you need something you just find a way to build it yourself. You sir should really have your own tv show. You are in a league of your own.

Hi, Im Joe NOT Maria. Im on her computer now. FINALLY a guy building something very functional & without any fancy schmancy tools. GREAT job my friend. I think people are too wound up in having all the correct brand name tools these days. You have shown how things were REALLY done back in the days when you used what you had. All it takes is good technique & using your head to make what you need with what you got! Thank you.

I only subscribed to your channel in the last year or so, John, and I haven't gone through all of your content yet. Now I know what the next playlist will be that I watch. This is one of the best, if not THE best scratch-made vises I've ever seen. This could be perfectly adapted to just about any size and configuration with that simple quick release mechanism. I love it! Thanks for sharing. Josh

John ... Whether you ever need them or not, I think the replaceable inserts in the jaws are a good idea. Wish I would done that when I installed the vise on my bench ... I built everything on my bench (including the vise chops) out of Douglas Fir, and my chops are just beat to hell. Replacing them with hard maple and inserts is on my 'to-do' list.
@SuperBardley
@SuperBardley 9 жыл бұрын
+Gerald Jensen Yep, I like the option of leather inserts for working materials that need special/delicate handling or copper for gripping steel/iron without the risk of making permanent dents in wooden base-chops. Layered Masonite also makes a tough, cheap liner for woodwork.

John - great video and terrific plans. Are the routed semi-circle channels on the top of A1 and A2 just part of the prototype (shown at 4:20)? I don't see those in the plans. Cast metal bench vises are really expensive so this will save a lot of money by making one. Well worth the $10. Thanks.

Just one thing .I think a hacksaw cut in each face of the 1/2 nuts would allow the epoxy better grip.Other than that ,great build.What I like about John's builds are the use of nearly all wood and no welding which most woodworkers cant do or do nor are equipped for.
