If you buy a Z80 Playground kit rather than a ready-assembled board, you will need to solder it together yourself. All the parts are included, so you just need a soldering iron, solder, and a Digital Multi-Meter that can test voltage and frequency.
In this video I take you through all the steps needed to assemble your kit.

Sound is fine. Got one of these ordered. As a lifetime tech I've never used CP/M! Retd. now and mostly playing Arduinos and amateur radio but this is why I want one. To learn about the Z80 and CP/M. RETRO is braw.

I hope you enjoy it when it arrives! I like CP/M and the Z80 because of the simplicity of it.

I'd love to get my hand in one of those kits too bad it's out of stock for what looks like forever :(

do you have any idea of when the kits will be available?

Useful tip on changing the op code and then working out the cycle length via M1, thanks. Was wondering why everyone always picks a 16C550 for their Z80 designs, when Zilog already make a nice SIO that lets you daisy chain the INT?

I think maybe price or availability. There are actually lots of possible UARTs, all with pros-and-cons. In fact I was planning a "Battle of the UARTs" video, but haven't made it yet. I've got about 6 different UARTs I think.

Seems like I have found this video and your eBay offer one day too late. Do you have any plans to make some more fully assembled sets available again?

Oh yes, definitely, more kits and fully assembled boards coming soon. Keep your eye on my ebay account.

I'm thinking £40 for kit, £46 for fully assembled, plus postage to UK, which is £5.

The link below the video shows no boards in stock. Are more coming along?

Yes, I've got some fully assembled ones and kit-form ones in the pipeline. Just waiting on components to be delivered.

When do you believe the will be available for purchase? A week, a month, ...?
@CircuitBreaker256

@@HannesTschofenig It is tricky to say because I am waiting on components to be delivered. They should have arrived by now, but the mail is currently going slow. As soon as they show up, more boards will be available. Sorry I can't be more specific. It is frustrating!

I'm ready to buy one when you have some stock to sell. Any idea how long it takes to have one delivered to the US?

Well, I've just sent some to USA and Canada, so I'll watch the shipping tracker and find out.

@@CircuitBreaker256 Awesome! Just got finished watching this video... I'll just keep checking back on your site to see when the next batch is ready to go. Any ideas when you might be ready to sell them on E-Bay again?

@@CircuitBreaker256 Sounds great! I'll check back later this week and "have a go" at putting one together myself. That's the best way to learn... One quick question, the capacitors that are used around the main IC chips on the board (and most every motherboard I've seen), is that to clean up the input voltage to reduce noise or something else. Probably a dumb question but my field is Sys Admin, networking, firewalls, etc. and I really want to learn specifically what the components do and how they work.
@CircuitBreaker256
@CircuitBreaker256 3 жыл бұрын
@@tommajor2940 They are decoupling capacitors, basically tiny reservoirs of power for each chip to smooth out voltage spikes when the chip suddenly draws a large current. It's good practice to add them.

Your sound level is low, I've seen you adding cuts and titles on your video, why not to add a normalize audio filter, or apply a gentle compressor (say 2:1), and push the fade up a bit?
@CircuitBreaker256
@CircuitBreaker256 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I normally do that, but forgot on this video!
@gartmorn

To fit the ch376 module you could put the connectors onto the ch376 first and then put it onto the main board so that you're soldering it with the module in situ hence no alignment issues!
