My mother made this A LOT. It seemed like she just chopped everything up and tossed it into the pot, but we loved it! My grandmother(who lived with us) taught her how with depression era ingredients. We usually had enough for a few days. Then it was time for Jag then Beans on Sat. night and Sunday morning.

Thanks so much, you have access to the best food in the world! We used to have a condo on Central Park West so I know first hand.

In upstate New York this dish, we called it ‘American Goulash’. My Mom would make a large batch and the dinner that night would be direct from the stove top. The remainder would go into a cassorole dish and into a 350 degree oven until the top was a bit browned. For my Grandfather, she would add a bit of hot sauce and stick small chunks of sharp cheddar in random spots. My job was to deliver it to Grandpa and after he re heated it, help him eat it. Never had any go to waste.

Yep you are right "goulash" here too, definitely midwest South Central Iowa here. But ours was far from sweet! Smoked paprika and your favorite graded hard cheese in the end is my add on.

That would definitely work! Thanks for sharing!

I grew up in the Detroit area in the 60's and 70's and this is similar to what we called Goulash. My dad would used red a red and a green bell pepper in addition to celery and always had Paprika. Good eats on a cold Fall or Winter day!

Yes, that’s very similar to the dish I had in Milwaukee that I mentioned on the video. Thanks so much for your comment!!!

Very similar to what we in the mid-west call American Goulash. I think the only real difference is that we add 2-3 cups beef stock which makes it look more like a soup and then we add the noodles instead of cooking the elbows separately. I really like your recipe here where the noodles get undercooked separately. I'm going to try this recipe this weekend and look forward to trying it.

So gonna make this, it looks amazing. In the UK, if you put this in a baking dish and put grated cheese on top and then cook it in the oven, it’s what we call pasta bake.

My grandpop had this in school lunch and he loved it, so he started making it. We're part polish/german, this was a huge meal growing up. I make it hjere and there now, and it's so cheap to make and you can make a crap load with very little ingredients. We throw sweet corn in ours

This is a meal that brings back great memories. My father in law was from Springfield,Mass and was French Canadian and he absolutely loved this meal. My mother would make it a lot in the winter and it absolutely soothed the soul. I think I will start making it for my son’s third shift dinner. Thanks again Chris and Tina.
