This is brilliant! I wonder if it is possible to just have an on and off switch without the controller? There wouldn't be more than 20 amps on the contacts of the switch, which would be in a split second so it should be ok. That way a person would pedal on the flat and only use power when going up a hill to save battery power. I have always wondered and thought about trying this myself but wasn't sure if it was possible to have such a motor, thinking it would require too much power or be too bulky to put on a bike frame. Well you proved it certainly is and have created a marvellous machine. I would use sealed lead acid batteries though, little chance of spontaneous combustion.

The gearing would not work from that type of motor, you would need a very small gear on the motor say 1 inch and larger one on the back wheel say a 12 inch plus diameter to give it any usable torque as those motors are high revving but not much torque, look at the size of the pulley on the washing machine drum to the size of the motor pulley.
