It's time for the drink of spring; Birch Sap! Every spring, between the snow melting and the buds popping up on the birch trees, you can make a tasty drink by tapping sap from a birch! The drink is full of nutrients and antioxidants! So healthy! Cheers, everyone! 🌳🥂

Spring birch sap is phenomenal; a healthy tonic with many healing properties. I tapped birch when I lived in Northern Vermont. The drink is very refreshing. The Native cultures knew about the properties of birch water and drank it as a Spring tonic after long winters.

I suppose the sap is mildly sweet. It’s interesting how clear that was. More like water than sap. 😝 What benefits does it have? The only thing we have that is used a lot is maple syrup, which I find the real stuff is very delicious, but expensive. I enjoyed the video, it was very relaxing. ❤❤
@DanielErik

Yes, mildly sweet! It has vitamins in its, if I remember correctly it has a lot of Vitamin C, but other things as well! Back in the day, it was a well-needed boost of vitamins after a long winter, when Sweden was a poor country with not much to eat during winter. 🌳 Thanks for commenting, I haven't seen you here in a while so I was wondering where you were! Hope everything is well! 🥰

@@DanielErik I am busy busy busy with my art and my studio, so getting to comment on your videos is a treat! I meant to say something more about your previous video where you were getting ready to plant a garden! Spring has been such a new awakening for me this year. I’m trying to take it all in, and not waste a moment! I enjoy your videos so much, and watching you is always a joy. Even though I’m not as secluded as you are, I do feel the freedom of being away from the big city, living on my wooded property, with barely anyone close by. (I have neighbors, but I don’t know any of them, and my property is 28acres so no one is right up on me) I can’t wait to see the snow all gone, and the new life blooming where you live. I’m sure after the long winter, you are ready to be outside a lot! Please take care and enjoy life to the fullest! ❤️❤️

@@DanielErik Sounds refreshing. Unfortunately I cannot tap into the birch trees in our neighborhood so easily. You're lucky you can just walk into the woods nearby and tap birches. Too bad they don't bottle birch water but maybe it's best freshly tapped?

I don't know why but to me this birch sap obsession sounds horrible. It feels like as if a tree bleeding for you. Not to mention that half the people that like birch's sap do not know how to close the "wound" properly after. Usch.
@DanielErik
@DanielErik Ай бұрын
I see your point, and I partly agree. It has to be done with care and one shouldn't tap too much. I do however think it's okay in small volumes, and one has to make sure it stops dripping. Either way, I'm glad there's people out there with good intentions like you, who care for nature! ☺️

It's better for the tree if you take it from a branch! You can Google the impacts of taking from the stem, it makes the tree permanently injured and prone to infections and parasites 🥹
@DanielErik
@DanielErik Ай бұрын
I love that you want what's best for the tree! ❤️ But it's the opposite! It's better to do it from the stem, because you can never really stop the dripping as thoroughly from a branch, making the tree more prone for infections. Thank you for caring for Mother Nature! 🥰
@hazysunshineELF
@hazysunshineELF Ай бұрын
@@DanielErik I guess there are positives and negatives with both! My teacher in Botanics at university told us the permanent damages of tapping from the stem are quite serious, so that's why I mentioned it - but you're probably right about the dripping.
