@@GourmetVegetarianKitchen How expensive is it in the U.S? It's extremely cheap in India since it is a tropical country. The price has nothing to do with the process but the supply and ease of availability. We have an abundance of coconut trees right on our street, and I live in a major metropolis.
@VV-xg5ci
@VV-xg5ci 5 жыл бұрын
@@lilyxin9149 Cold pressed coconut oil is still expensive in India comparatively. What we usually get in store is not cold pressed but coconut oil extracted from dried coconuts by passing it through an expeller which is a much cheaper process compared to cold pressing. Although you will get higher quantity of oil through dried coconuts the quality is not so great compared to oil extracted from its milk. Actually there is one more way of extracting coconut oil other than these two.
@Kyle-sg4rm
@Kyle-sg4rm 5 жыл бұрын
@@VV-xg5ci Can you please explain the other method for extracting the oil??? I would like to do this someday soon! Coconut oil is actually one of the healthiest oils for frying (deep frying etc). Due to the high content of saturated fat, it does not become carcinogenic the way that most other cooking oils do. Ghee or clarified butter are also more healthy for deep frying. But still - eat in moderation :)
@VV-xg5ci
@VV-xg5ci 5 жыл бұрын
@@Kyle-sg4rm There is actually 3 ways to extract oil from coconut. 1)Commercial and most common way by drying up the coconuts and passing it through an expeller to press out the oil. This is the most productive way but quality will not be that good. 2) Cold pressed Virgin oil as shown in the video. Top quality oil but the quantity will be very less. 3) By extracting the milk from tender coconuts by grating it and pressing. Then this milk is boiled slowly to evaporate off the water leaving us with only oil and deep fried chunk of cheese which is edible. Quantity will be good and quality too is ok.But its a very tiresome and hectic process as it requires you to continuously stir the milk when its boiling up until all the water has boiled off.

I always flip the jars over and store them on their lids so when the coconut cream and oil solidifies, you can just open the lid and pour out the water. It's a bit less work.

I remember making pure coconut oil with my grandma as a kid in Fiji. We certainly had a different process and even had a coconut scraper that was 2 generations old! It's definitely ingrained into our culture and it's lovely seeing it become mainstream now. I'm going back to visit her this year and might ask her to teach me her process so I can hold on to it.

Wow, a lot of processes go into the making, it's originated from a coconut we all know as fruit. The meat diced, watered, blendered, squeezed, fridged, creamed, fermented, curded, fermented, dripped, fridged, until finally got the solid oil separated from water, amazing. I like frying egg/rice using this kind of oil it gives nice flavor, curious how its made out of a sudden and here I am xD

It was such a labour, jaw-dropping. Now back home, whenever I open up a can of coconut milk, cream or oil, the whole picture appears and that makes me think about what we put into our body everyday. I was searching for a way to make cold pressed coconut oil, this is the 3rd video I have looked at and the best by far, why I love, it has less wastage, you can see she is a chef, the way she removes the coconut from the shell from the get go, everything is so intentional, she removes the water and reserves the other by products so there is little or no waste, and then fermentation takes places to produce the OIL at the end.. Dont need to search anymore,, i just subscribed to her channel and have already gotten inspiration on testing some other recipes. she makes it look so easy, I hope i dont have have Boo Boos and make mistakes, she makes it look dummy proof.

Excellent! You’ve made me realize what I missed when I was making coconut oil decades ago LOL I heard how to make it in one local radio station, but my problem was I can’t completely separate the oil from the curd that’s why after a day, the oil tasted rancid. I was making it to help cure my sister’s lupus. My father was also tempted to drink it but also noticed the rancid taste. I’ve already thought of putting it in a fridge but never had a chance to do it due to lack of time and lack of grated coconut. Now after decades, I stumbled on one video about how to make it. It was also excellent, but yours is better for you’re able to remove most of the curd and water. I would say put the finish product in strainer again so as to remove the excess water. I know there’s still a bit of water there. Thanks! I can’t wait to make mine.

@wjwn dkd This is the cold technique, boiling works and you don't have to do as much. Just take the coconut milk, with or without the blended meat. Boil till "cooked" leave it to rest and drain the oil at the top . Not sure what the yield comparison is, the main issue is if you heat it too much the oil will come out smelling a little burnt, so you have to go slow and make sure it is gentle/thorough else the product is lower quality, vitamin wise and all.. since too much heat also destroys those. I think it is best to follow a pasteurization routine and see your yield of oil at the end.

@@hypothalamusjellolap8177 but i didnt think so. The element of cooking are fire and coconut chunk. Still both of them are creation of god. I think all the method used is the best but have different type of chemical chain. But this is my opinion, i might wrong.

I saw another method but it was with heat, it works way faster but you get less oil in comparison with this one, because heat tends to burn it, the white /clear oil will come out, but by keeping aplying heat, the oil becomes yellow, and after some time it stops being useful to cooking
