What is dirty fighting anyway? Actually, there's no such thing as dirty fighting! There’s just fighting.
When it comes to self-defense and you’re protecting your life or the life of someone you love, there are no rules. You do whatever it takes to keep the good guy alive.
Some people think kicking in the groin or pulling the hair is fighting dirty. It’s fighting like a girl. I disagree! Why? Because if you take out dirty fighting moves from a real fight, you know what you get? Sports.
MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling-- they all have rules. They also all have weight classes! That's because without dirty fighting moves, the bigger, stronger guy will almost always have an advantage over the smaller, weaker guy. If the smaller, weaker guy doesn’t fight dirty, there won't be much of a fight at all!
Self-defense is not a sport. It’s a war. A war between the good guys and the bad guys. And all is fair in love and war. Especially war.
So, how do you make “dirty fighting” work in a real-life self-defense situation? Keep fighting!
Some people think if they fight dirty, then self-defense is easy. WRONG!
Think about a fight like being locked in a closet. To get out, first you have to find a key to open the lock. Then you have to open the door. Then you have to move through the door.
Same idea if you get caught in a choke. If you bite his arm, he's not just going to run away. You're still going to get choked! Maybe you opened the lock, but you didn’t open the door.
Dirty fighting should be the beginning of your fight, not the end. If you bite his arm, then you need to control his arm... then change your position… then attack another vulnerable target... then escape.
When it comes to dirty fighting, always train thinking, AND THEN. I bite and then I do this. I gouge the eye AND THEN I do that.
Same idea applies with gouging the eye. If you reach out to hit a jab a bad guy in the eye, he may not care! He may be drunk or crazy. That's why you have to train yourself to keep fighting until you're safe. Don't be a "one hit wonder". Open the lock, open the door, and get through the door.
Remember- if you're a good guy fighting to protect your life, don't think about fighting clean or fighting dirty… just fight. And keep fighting until you’re safe.

Excellent Video! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you considered - Chireetler Dread Free Rule (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good exclusive guide for learning self effective defence moves without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my old buddy Taylor at very last got astronomical success with it.

good video sir, we did a women's class and that was the first thing that came out of one of the woman's mouth, tried to explain them how women are not physically built to be stronger, so they need a plan B, plan C etc... well at the end of the class, was glad we got thru to them...

Thanks for sharing the arts, Thomas! To me, it's not even about women or men... it's about smaller versus bigger. The fact is there are lots of beasts who can throw me around like a rag doll, so if I don't prepare my own Plan B and Plan C, I'll be crushed! Keep up the good work, sir!

I always say to younger students in the dojo when we are practising moves and they make a mistake to never say sorry. I always say to them what would you do next. if you are in a fight and your move does not come off, you don't get to stop, say sorry and ask if you can do it again. always think of your next move. another great video

Awesome video as always. & absolutely correct about those know- it- alls that say, "I don't need to learn martial arts/ self defense. Just one kick to the groin & the fight will be over." In youtube alone I see atleast 10 comments per day with similar statements. I can't help but shake my head at their ignorance. The biggest mistake you can make in a fight is to underestimate your opponent & overestimate yourself. Anyway, as always I can not stress enough about the good your doing to us aspiring martial artists by imparting your knowledge & experience through your videos. The fact that you do it in a precise, to the point manner with an occasional dose of humor only adds flavor to an already delicious dish. Will wait eagerly for your next video. Respect...

- Now I fully understand why there's a huge focus on overkill training. It's where the "and then" part makes sense. In sports, you stop when you know the other guy is down or has submitted, but in real life, you do the combos until the threat is stopped (this is including legal repercussions, of course).
@AndoMierzwa
@AndoMierzwa 7 жыл бұрын
Good point. It's easier to STOP a technique than to keep going. So, when we see overkill, it's really just practicing how to keep fighting when the previous moves weren't enough. And yes, legally and morally, once we can get away to safety, that's enough! Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for saying what I have taught for the past 30 years. In the real world there are only survivors and victims. I have trained every part of my body to be a deadly weapon. However, in real combat I have no issue with leaving a pile of hair, eyeballs, and testicles in my wake. For that reason, I feel no shame in walking away from trouble. No need to prove anything. Treat others with respect and if there is no way out of a tight spot, let the tiger off the leash. One of the reasons I avoid violence is because I don't want to be covered in someone's blood-borne pathogens. I advise that one avoid bad friends, bad places, and bad behavior. That will greatly increase your odds of avoiding injury or death. Much respect.

I wholeheartedly agree. And I liked the perspective that "dirty fighting" doesn't actually exist in a life-threatening situation. Although still, we wouldn't want to gouge their eyes on a boys-proving-themselves kind of fight. And we would all be rightfully dubbed Andreas if we pulled hair in these ones.

If you ever get the chance i would love to see you do a few weapons disarms. I carry a concealed firearm and so i am always paranoid that an attacker will make me and target me first in a public environment with their own weapon. Maybe show us something against a single attacker as well as two/ more attackers?
@AndoMierzwa

Hi Charles! What an interesting thing to be worried about... I never thought about being targeted first. Maybe I should stop trying to hide this bazooka under my shirt! :) As for disarms, I'll add them to my list... but I don't think I have much new to offer. Stay out of the line of fire... get close... control the weapon... attack the man. That's pretty tried and true. Stay safe out there!

Hi Victor! I'm not a tournament guy, so my tips would be just from being a casual observer. It's also important to know what style you're talking about! And what your personal strengths and weaknesses are! But in general, I'm a big fan of attacking and pushing the pace. Don't wait around and give the other guy a chance to do their favorite moves on you. Get in there!

The biggest problem with dirty fighting is that these moves are so effective to the point that they become too dangerous for sparring or competition. This means people tend to not drill these moves, so they don't find ways to use them most effectively when they really need them in a real fight. What do you think, Ando? I do agree mindset is half the battle, but my question is what in your opinion is the best way to physically drill these techniques while not being too unsafe for practice? Are we limited to shadow boxing with these? Should we spar using these moves but wear a lot more protective gear?

Great point! This is how Judo got started... practicing movements you can really DO, instead of stopping short and imagining what you would do. Training is a personal journey, so everyone will find their own way to feel prepared. For me, I like simulating dirty fighting as much as possible, so yes, hitting the groin and putting hands on the neck, eyes, etc. The real trick is finding partners you trust to work like that. But when you can, push as close as you can without causing injury. That's it!

If I want to become decent at martial arts, and learn a few basic stuff, would I be able to do it from home rather than having an actual lesson? If I was to stretch a lot, buy myself some gear, and learn from teachers on KZfaq such as yourself?

it's true .. most of the martial artist or people who want to learn martial art so called think that "yeah m learning martial art and I can beat 10 or 20 people in street" or most of martial art instructor teaches still now that "like this and that you can save yourself in street" -_- .. even when I was a brown belt at karate and got trapped at street with some gangs then seriously, no sport kumite or like punches and roundhouse kick was there .. then I was finding that :o .. what happened?? why my Fighting skills didn't get in use .. and when I changed to other dojo .. then my sensei told me that " kata can b applied in real life fighting but that depends on practicing it which is for a trained martial artist but for untrained martial artist or normal people ...it's totally different" :) ... so for long writing sensei ... hope to get more knowledge from you through your videos

This video is a double profit for me - learning english and mental values of self-defense. Let me ask some advice from you. If I am 198 cm and 125kg will the Taekwondo be a nice suitable art for me ? Thank you, Ando. Sorry for poor english.

Good tip, Roman! It's hard for some nice people to believe that bad guys really don't care about hurting their victims. Sometimes, you have to fight fire with fire! I can't say which martial art will make you happy because I don't know what your goals are. You're a big fellow, so I"m guessing you're not worried about being pushed around. But if you're looking to challenge yourself and stay in shape, Tae Kwon Do can be a great art. I would check out every school in your area until you find one that gets you excited. Thanks for the comment, sir!

Yep, people are mostly beware of me, but size doesn't matter much. I just lack speed and reaction. So I don't stand any chance against well trained fellow who is going to be 2 times smaller than me. It is very nice to see channel owner communicating with subscribers, plus your videos are really interesting. Keep just the way you are! p.s. If you want, I could translate your channel into russian or ukranian, and to voice your content.

Well, TKD can definitely help with your footwork and distancing. If you feel that all that moving around is not really natural, you might also consider Kali or Arnis, which also focuses on angles. Plus, the sticks and blades move faster than hands and feet, so you can train your eye and reactions even better. Just a thought! As for translation, wow! If you have any time, that would be incredible! Even one video reaching a wider audience is an exciting idea. I believe I switched on the option that allows anyone to contribute a translation. I would be honored, sir! But no worries if you're too busy! I understand! :)

You know what? I really appreciate your training. However I too train to bully proof tap n tag sparing / fighting. I just heard you say their is no dirty fighting like kicking, biting, hair pulling and so fourth, & I agree. But I still don't recommend kicking so much & I'll tell you why. I find kicking a disadvantage unless it is a sucker kick which is OK so long as it's in defence of a sure attack on me. I have a style I created to defend & beet the feet with my technique. I was a pro boxer way back when 40 years ago. My doctor told me I was fat & needed to work out as I was diagnosed w/ diabetes & other aliments. I'm 63 now going on 33 L.O.L In any case I returned to the boxing ring, only I did not feel right with every kid being so young,. I was suggested to try out at an MMA club & was told they are older & professional fighters that fights all the time in the casino's. I did just that. They said sure we won't use our feet & they would fight me just so to develop their hand technique. Right off the bat I was defeating them with just my hands only as it was my game. They soon enough got where they refused to spar me unless I would allow them to kick as they quote said I was cramping their style of no kicking, I told them then to do what you need to do & kick, & so they did low & dirty. I was trained to never hit below the belt so I'd quit for like 3 or 4 months watching you & other kick fighters. I studied & designed my own style of defence & offence to use on kick fighters & proved successful. How to defeat the feet with my new technique. It take me too long to explain how I do it but you can see it for yourself if & when KZfaq me Dave Overbey fight & defend. Now don't get me wrong as I am not criticising or comparing so much as I'd put three years development & study into this that it might benefit someone bullied. You know & I know bullies exist. I've reached the point to start my own series of training those of lesser skill strength & size so they can defend themselves against the wise guy bully. My series will be to fight & be free of threats aimed at me. My style is not the muscle hustle as is the development of fight habits just as you quoted to make habits of how you stand & defend. It's the muscle memory & leverage. Over training leads to underestimating. Weight lifting is only stiff-ability not agility or flexibility. Rope skipping is like tap dancing & your never going to hit a home run, Speed bag is only a show off bag & so is like a botanist. or a drummer playing wipe out L.O.L One needs to be agile & flexible, Anchored & able to push, shove twist, spin , jerk, toss & throw. Punch n crunch, slap n smack, Bash n smash, slip n slide rolling in, under & around as not fighting on the outside, & more to fighting in & around & not be a clown. Constantly in perpetual motion habits of grabbing & all the above. Note's will describe under comments to be advisable to read on more details. It's not the muscle hustle win's the fight unless one allows it. KZfaq Dave Overbey fight & defend to the end. Thanks for your input & please feel free to reply. I give you thumbs up & again Thanks.

It drives me insane when they say "this is not realistic and you will never need it'. So will I ever need football skills? since they think football is life and all you have to do is tackle someone?
