Attractive Face or Not? It depends on Tongue Posture

If you're interested in this topic and how to properly "mew" (practice good oral posture and other habits that encourage good facial development), check out the Orthotropics channel: bit.ly/2DciWp0
One thing missing from this discussion is the health impacts of having good oral posture. Considering the airway is at the back of the face, having a receded chin or maxilla could hinder your airway, having big implications for sleep apnea.
Clarification on the title: I of course don't mean to suggest that attractiveness depends only on tongue posture. Nutrition of the mother and nutrition of the person during formative years surely play a very large role in how the face develops. In fact, the book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration would suggest that; fat soluble vitamins being very important for fertility and proper development of young, with grains & sugar ("modern foods") being very detrimental for development and oral health especially.
Oral posture would be another piece of the puzzle.
NOTE ON SUTURE FUSION: I wish I had used the phrasing "these sutures are not completely fused together," or "sutures are not completely closed ..." It's understood that after birth, the sutures of the skull "fuse" together by age 2 or so. One study found that complete closure of certain sutures does not occur until as late as 70 years old. Another found that “The human frontozygomatic suture undergoes synostosis during the eigth decade of life, but does not completely fuse by the age of 95 years" based on 61 human cadavers aged 20 to 95.
This topic with a focus on facial development's affect on respiration and sleep apnea is discussed in Dr. Felix Liao's "Six Foot Tiger, Three Foot Cage" - amzn.to/2WMpPGk
Another great book not mentioned in the video is "Jaws: The Story of a Hidden Epidemic" - amzn.to/2HVJoIR
Weston Price's "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" - amzn.to/2HZTB7f

This is astounding! I have been a mouth breather for as long as I can remember. Nose blocked half the time. I have crooked teeth and no chin! Today is day 1! Wish me luck folks! Edit : 1 year progress. First of all, thanks everyone for the encouragement! I kind of feel like the flag bearer for this video lol. Doing it for self improvement, you guys and for science :P So I shaved my beard and noticed that my chin has indeed moved forward!!! I'm no Johnny Bravo yet since the move is still subtle but I definitely see it on my profile side. I have been pressing my tongue hard while on my commute to work and back, so 40 minutes a day. All the while keeping the tongue in the proper position throughout the day. It has quickly helped me breathe out my nose at night. Did not even take a month! I haven't told the wife about my project so the true indicator that the job is done will be when she one day tells me "woa what's with your sexy manly jaw all of a sudden!?" Thanks all and thanks WIL for your awesome and life changing videos !

But why does resting your tongue on the top of your mouth result in a more defined chin? Isn't that just going to push the upper face out more thereby making the lower chin seem more receeded?

@@Hapacel1 Hi! Still going at it. My tongue got used to sitting at the top of the mouth. It now feels weird to have it sit any other way which is cool. I'm lucky because when I wake up at night, I realize my tongue is still in its place so that's a 8-9h win right there! I try to sneak in a tongue workout here and there and I've been pretty consistent at it while on my daily commute to work. So far nothing noticeable of course as far as facial features. I do feel however that my nose is so much less blocked which is amazing for me! Feel free to ask for future updates!

I saw this video 3 years ago. I had a pretty round face then, not many physical contours. I also had a double chin. I tried this technique. At first my tongue wouldn't rest on the top of my mouth. But after a week of trying, this habit became second nature. now after two years I can confirm it does work. My jawline became quite visible, my cheekbones have started to show(I would love it if it showed a little more) and I completely lost my double chin.

I was a mouth breather due to having a blocked noise from endless colds. It took me a few months to learn to breathe through my nose when sleeping. Essentially it was perseverance at breathing through the nose even when it was blocked. I found that within a few minutes the nose would clear and then I could breathe through it. I believe that improved tongue posture is going to benefit me.

My son was born with several medical conditions. Among them was retrognathia of the lower jaw. He was treated since toddlerhood at a hospital university clinic for crowded teeth. Over the years, their plan of action consisted of pulling several teeth in preparation of bracing. I continually asked if pulling all these teeth would change his facial profile for the worse. I additionally asked if his lower jaw would get smaller. They said he needed to have them pulled. 2 of the teeth that they pulled were canines that had drifted to the front of his chin. Those teeth could’ve been saved by gradually training them while he was young back to where they should’ve grown in….. When my son was 20, they wanted to pull 4 more teeth….. My son had severe sleep apnea and nobody was concerned, so I went a different route. I called a dentist/orthodontist that specialized in treating patients with airway blockages that cause sleep apnea. He started treatment by giving my son a 3D cone scan. After fighting with the dental clinic to change their care plan, they refused to treat him anymore. I was free to see this specialized dentist/orthodontist, who spent nearly 4 years reopening spaces where implants could be installed. During this time, he also went to an ENT for myofacial therapy to help his mild Cerebral Palsy. Fast forward….My son’s upper and lower jaw was expanded, giving him more space for his tongue to properly place. He wears retainers now to keep those spaces open. He does not have sleep apnea anymore and his facial profile is corrected. Tongue placement is important…. So is having a jaw large enough for the tongue to rest and the jaw itself to trained forward.

Interesting theory how the texture of food can affect teeth. When I was little I would chew on bones and even eat them💀 I’m not a picky eater and I have straight teeth (no ingrown ones or even crooked, heck even my wisdom teeth grew fine). This, compared to my older sister who doesn’t eat some foods and doesn’t chew on bones (lol) her teeth are crowded. My tongue posture is resting on the bottom, however in the past year I’ve discovered mewing and try to make it habitual. I don’t suffer from blocked noses often so my jawline is pretty aight, I just need to loose body fat ☠️

highly reccomend fasting for losing fat, CICO is ofc valid; just less effective and more loose skin to do a cutting phase, i reckon you build less muscle too. 112-120ish kg down to 88kg (188cm, muscular), id fast for a week and then weightlift and walk or run for a week eating properly. no noticeable loose skin highly reccomend doing this, i dont fast anymore, i did this on off weekly fasting thing from april to july, got down to 85kg and been eating at maintenance/slightly above calorie wise ever since.

Im fairly happy with my jawline etc, and I noticed that my mouth is almost always closed because i mainly use my nose to breath. Teeth and jaw are almost always softly pressed together, depending on my mood. My tongue, for as long as I can remember, has always rested in the top of my mouth. Most of my family members that don't share this habit, do not have the same looks when it comes down to facial structure. I do however experience headaches after long periods of applying force with my jaws and tongue. As a kid I always had a very round and fluffy face, but I don't really think that acts like proof. Can still recommend this to anybody. I never did this to actively change my face structure because it was just a habit that people around me always told me, breathe through your nose, close your mouth etc etc. I can't say that my genetics didn't play a part in this, but I'd like to believe that it's mainly genetics and this habit. Edit: Been think about this a lot lately and noticed that because of corona slacking and moving out of my parents house, I stopped paying as much attention to the things above and I noticed my face getting rounder and less masculine. Might be because of the bulking.. But I'm picking this habit up again. Funny how this video came around when I needed it.

Most of his points are anecdotal and circumstantial. The last point about the monkeys is misleading as well, as he is presenting as though the change happen from them not exerting force to their mouth roof, but really it's much much more likely their dental health changes due to mouth saliva drying out, which among other things protect the teeth and assist in mouth function.

I've done this my whole life unintentionally. I always felt tense in my body, just anxious/nervous all the time so something I'd do to cope with this tension and the pain it would cause in my throat and chest is press the tip of my tongue towards the front roof of my mouth and slightly against my front teeth and it would stay like that until the tension went away. I did this so much that it I just did it automatically; whenever I felt tense. Never knew this is what would happen. Nice to know I have a nice jawline due to feeling like I was going to die all my life.

After reviewing my front teeth, the dentist suggested me to press my tong on the top, behind the teeth, so I used to do it always and this turned into a habit. Now, each time that I go to the dentist, they said that my teeth are surprisingly ordered. Even my wisdom teeth popped up without pain. I don't know how many years has this discovering, but I thanks so much that Mexican dentist that help me to avoid many problems with simple advice.

My dentist in Mason Ohio, Dr Dan Hillis, did this with me. I had a small mouth and underdeveloped jaw due to a tongue restriction that my parents never had checked due to neglect which cause a severe speech impediment. I had my tongue restriction lasered twice and wore a retainer for 2 years that acted as the tongue which would be tightened every 2 weeks. I also wore a lower retainer as my lower jaw didn’t grow along with the top as fast as it should. No scar tissue bone created, but natural bone.

Don't worry about pain or tiredness bro, the tongue is the one muscle that never gets damage via continuous pressure since it needs to push strongly 24/7. If you feel pain/tiredness in your tongue feel free to ignore that feeling since it's designed to do so regardless. The biggest thing holding people back from attractive features is fear of that uncomfortable muscle feeling, but it's actually something that should be there when learning this. After just two weeks worth of 24/7 extreme tongue pressure, the extent of it has begun to lessen and so the act of straining against my palate has become my neutral state. In fact my mouth feels pleasant whenever i push hard with my tongue now. I urge you to try your best and push as hard as you can possibly can, at least for a month before writing this off.

@Kuba Marcin Honestly, the best thing I've found is taping my mouth shut at night (so long as my nose isn't blocked and I'm able to breathe though there safely). With my lips taped shut my tongue figures out that it should be on the roof of my mouth instead. I also found that this helps me remember to keep my mouth shut while I'm sitting at my computer desk for example.

I've been holding my tongue to the roof of my mouth since I was a little kid. It just came naturally. While my teeth are nicely lined up, I still have a small jaw and my teeth were very crowded. There was no room at all for my wisdom teeth so the ones on the right side had to be pulled out. The dentist was saying my mouth was too small - he could barely get his hand in there. I do have a connective tissue disorder and a small mouth is linked to that (if you are curious look up hEDS or ehlers danlos). I have a slight overbite too but its not really noticeable - my front upper and lower teeth don't line up. For unknown reasons my yoga teacher thinks a tongue pressed to the roof of the mouth is "stress" so she keeps saying to pull it away from there. Which I find it SO hard to do. Its like the tongue doesn't FIT in my lower jaw or it won't lie down there. It wants to be up at the top! Anyway she has said she has now retrained her tongue to be on the bottom of her mouth all the time to get rid of the "stress signal" - wonder what this will do to her face? And yes I breathe through the nose. I have also heard a tongue with scalloped edges means you have food allergies or sensitivities! My tongue is scalloped.

2/3 years ago I started working on my tongue posture. Now at 18 I’m very glad I did, my oval and round face became more defined. However my face is still flat as at the age of 15/16 puberty stopped so my face already stopped changing. But when I compare my face between now and back then, the cheekbones, jawline and chin look a lot better. Do try to correct your tongue posture.

Ok guys, so I started putting my tongue up for when this video came out one and a half year ago and honnestly, I did got some results ! Sure it's not a big difference but my cheeks became a little wider and little bumps appeared on the side of my skull just under my eyes. Now I put my tongue up without even noticing it and I also catch myself doing it during sleep, it became natural. I was 19 back then and I turned 21 last week, I used to have a thin face with a pointy chin but now you can say it's more squarish than anything else. I'll keep doing this and do another report in 1 or 2 years if I'm.still alive. Don't lose hope, we all gonna glow up for sure ! 👋 (Sorry for my english, I'm French)

@@TAPKIRE happened the same for me, got the mewing video recommended out of nowhere and decided to start doing it. I was 21 now im 23 and the jawline is wider and my underbite is far better. The latter you star doing it the more it will take for the changes to show up, as the facial bone structure gets harder and harder. But it still changes. Before 20 years changes are noticeable from 6 months to a year. From 20 to 25, in 2 to 5 years. And from 25 upwards it think it was 5 to 10 years. So tge sooner you start, the better

Native, aboriginal Asian here n this checks out. Found out about orthotopics n tongue posture about ten years ago n was receptive to it as the examples were strikingly prevalent in my own lineage. Mother, older sisters, n brothers, all over 35, have perfectly straight teeth; all 32 of them in tact wide smiles; n no instance of snoring. I, however, grew up in the states n developed extreme malocclusions, recessed chin; flared lower teeth to "meet" upper teeth n jaw; smaller, narrow palette; narrow smile; bimaxillary protrusion (monkey face); exert more effort when closing mouth (RBF); had orthodontic treatment n all four wisdom teeth extractions; snore, drool, n would frequently choke on my own tongue at night The only other one with slight, less severe symptoms is my slightly 3 year, older brother who has a slight bimax, but still has straight 32 teeth. His dental arch is just more rounded n less "square"
