Can’t wait to make this Marie. I just love this emulsifier, since learning about it from you back in October/November. Yes, it might not be what some call ‘natural,’ but it’s hard to beat! Hey - even essential oils have been ‘processed’ and have chemical compositions.

Hey Marie, first, let me thank you so so much for your générosity with all your videos, tutorials, explanations, details, and for everything else you teach us all Over the world! You sure give us the will to try and to persue in this learning Journey with joy and happyness. Second, I have a little question: I am a great fan of whipped body butter but, as we all think, it is missing a bit of hydration, so I was wondering if we could whip this formulation once cool to incorporâtes a bit of air in it? Merci beaucoup à l’avance :) Nancy from Quebec-Canada

Hi Marie, this recipe looks magnificent. I have all the ingredients except for the Calendula Extract in the cool down phase. I had a look your Encyclopedia but I wasn't quite sure what I could use as a botanical extract? Could you please suggest what I could do instead or purchase?
@sensimania
@sensimania 3 жыл бұрын
I make my own extracts by way of glycerites. I have a calendula one marinating as I type this. If you're not familiar with glycerites, there's lots of info online. I bought the dried calendula petals and let it sit in a jar of vegetable glycerine for 2 weeks. Agitate every day. At the 2 week mark, I sieve out the herbs (you can use a cheese cloth, but I use pop socks). And I have my glycerite! Glycerine has a knack for leaching all the good nutrients out of whatever soaks in it for certain periods of time. The good thing is that you can use your glycerite in place of the plain vegetable glycerine (listed in the formula for this body butter)

I have been dealing with terrible skin flares due to withdrawal ingredients from steroids. It's caused so many issues but my skin has the most terrible flares. I have spent so much money on creams and lotions claiming to help but then I decided to try and make my own. This formula seems to have all the right things. I was trying to figure out how to be able to add a dash of purple mice like in the lavender formula but wasn't sure how. If I add just a dash will it make a significant difference or mess it up?

Loved this! Quick question... why did you add xanthan gum to the oil phase?
@sensimania
@sensimania 3 жыл бұрын
Because it doesn't clump in the oil phase. Xanthan gum is water soluble, so although it won't dissolve in the heated oil phase, it'll dissolve as soon as the oil is combined with the water.

Also, can I mix preservative together as in Phytocide elderberry,Leucidal sf complete and germall plus since they all natural but different benefit.

I have a formulation question 🤔❓ . . . if I prefer to use aloe juice or a storebought hydrosol like say ---- Bulgarian 🌹 water 💧--- in place of any water called for in a recipe that also has an oil phase that must be heated, would it REALLY hurt the formulation function-wise or consistency-wise if I forewent heating the liquid portion? I don't want to kill the nutrients in the aloe 🪴 water or the 🌹 (or whatever variety of) hydrosol with the 🔥, which would negate the point of using them. I know that INITIALLY when hydrosols are made, the plant 🌺 is steamed in hot 🔥 water, the oil from the plant rises 2 the top & the & the excess water that is left is used for the hydrosol. But beyond the use of heat for the initial creation of the hydrosol, wouldn't re-heating it again after that result in loss of nutrients?? In terms of function, I'm assuming any water-soluble preservative can be added to water at room to a cold temperature 🌡, although some can be added when the water is warm, but not hot 🔥. I guess I'm asking, what's the purpose of the water-phase having to be heated with the oil phase at all? Is it so when you add the hot oil 2 the (in comparison) cool/room temperature 🌡 water that it doesn't instantly solidify?? Even if that were to happen, since you have to blend them together anyway, wouldn't the heat generated from the friction of blending properly mix the ingredients anyway?? IDK. I'm just an amateur kitchen chemist who doesn't have much experience with heavy duty formulations like this. I don't even having a scale to measure my ingredients. I have to convert everything to from grams to oz & teaspoons. Math is N🚫T my subject, I SUCK @ percentages unless it's like 25%, 50%, 75% 100%. So even when I'm adding preservatives ---- and the only 1s I own are Optiphen, citric acid, & potassium sorbate --- I pretty much "eye 👀" it cuz I don't know how to configure & convert percentages well. Like, I know in general that the amount of preservative in a product is very miniscule 2 the total amount of product as a whole, so if I'm making a shea body butter 🧈 recipe that calls for 2oz of water, in addition to the 1/4tsp. 🥄 of Borax powder it calls for, I'll add a LITERAL pinch 🤏🏾 of citric acid; a DASH 👌🏾 of potassium sorbate; and guesstimate about 5 - 10 drops🦯 of Optiphen to the water 💧 phase, 🤞🏾my fingers it keeps the concoction from going to 💩!! So far, no mishaps yet. I just there was a book of formulations that used the same 2 or 3 common, easy-2-obtain, preservatives for all the recipes in easy to understand ratios, i.e. ---- OUNCES & TEASPOONS --- that even us arithmetic 🧮 dolts 🤦🏾‍♂️can follow. But, I pretty much wing it. Kind of like I do when I cook 🍳. Though I will say I somewhat more precise when I cook. But I don't have any solubilizers except for polysorbate 80 for my simple hair sprays, facial toners, & blacksoap shampoo to help mix the essential oils in. I JUST ordered some BTMS-50 for the next time I make shampoo & for a leave-in hair butter I'm gonna attempt 🤞🏾2 make that I saw this other lady make with fenugreek & rosemary tea, shea butter, a lil' oil. The BTMS-50 is the only ingredient I wouldn't already have in my house. Simple stuff like that is more my speed since my "laboratory ⚗🧪 arsenal" is QUITE limited. But I still ❤ learning the science behind all of this stuff. But there's a DEFINITE reason I didn't pursue chemistry 👨🏾‍🔬💥🙅🏾‍♀️🙅🔥🏚 in school 😄!!

Love and greetings from Pretoria, South Africa 😘. Love your channel. Is it safe for us to put PEGs on our skin? There is so much controversy around PEGs. I also read an article written by a very reputable skincare school in the UK talking against it. Just want to know what is your take on this ingredient?😊
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I don't have any safety concerns about PEGs; they aren't natural, but natural-ness is not an indicator of safety :) Like many things we use regularly, tEGs have the potential to be harmful (like milk before it's been pasteurized or water before it's been treated), but the risks are well known and extremely carefully controlled. You can learn more here: cosmeticsinfo.org/ingredient/peg-100-stearate :) Happy making!

Hi! You can find the written formulation in two places :) The first place is in the description box below the video. This is simply the ingredient list and quantities. If you're not sure what the description box is, please read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/. The second place is in the free partner blog post that is always linked in the description box below my videos. This contains far more information; the instructions are written out, there's links to places to purchase the ingredients, and there's information on substitutions and scaling. All of my formulation videos have more information in the description box and partner blog post-please make sure you check them out to learn as much as possible. Happy making!
