This is a bit of an aside, however I’ve been watching a bunch of your videos (filling in the gaps, finding the smattering of videos I somehow hadn’t already watched in the past few years), and then skim the comments sections. I must say - the number of questions I see that made me think “what on Earth???” is astounding! Questions that are easily answered had the person checked out the partner blog (as you recommend again and again in each video) or just common sense: “can I use ingredient a instead of ingredient b? How much?”. “Weighing is difficult and I don’t want to buy a scale. Can you tell me how much to add in teaspoons, or mg?”. Questions that are so specific and seem outrageous to think that you’d reply to: “For those of us that are new, can you show us how you determine how much of each ingredient to add when making various products, like serums, cosmetics, moisturizers, etc? “ , “I only want to use natural ingredients that don’t have chemicals in them so shouldn’t you provide an alternative version of the recipe for those of us who don’t want to use Franken-ingredients? “ (oh my! those kind of questions seem especially rude 🙄🙄🙄🙄 !) Then the ones that make me scratch my head “the ingredient A that I have is purple and glittery. Are there ingredient sellers that add glitter and color?”, “To let you know, Ingredient C has been proven to cause cancer and is eroding the coral reefs. Scientists confirm it’s a microplastic. Please make a cleanser that does not use this. I have cut out all harmful chemicals from my skincare routine.”, “My mom got me Benetint cheek tint from Benefit and I want to make it myself to save money. How do I make this at home and what do I need to buy?” The list is endless of course. For some reason, this genre of content seems to invite comments that are wacky, demanding, entitled, confusing, and all kinds of “wtf”. Haha!! That said - and for those comments that are grounded enough to justify a response - your remarks are always very polite, a bit humorous, informative, respectful, and appropriate! I applaud your ability to maintain restraint and re-direct heavy-vibe initial comments, to ultimately land upon conclusions that feel much more lighthearted. From the amount of work and time you dedicate to providing loads free amazing informative content, to the clean, concise and easy to follow format and style of your channel and blog, and then your upbeat, soothing, classy and uplifting morale and persona - I am SO thankful that I found you and your channel!!!! I love the beauty world however don’t actually wear much makeup. I value fact and logic, and love learning - so the world of beauty formulating is RIGHT up my alley! I am continuously becoming more and more aware of and informed about product ingredients, and never look at a product without also combing over the ingredient lists now! I love it and thank you!!

I must add (to that very brief comment) that I’ve become acutely aware of how little basically all beauty content creators are UNaware of and uninterested in product ingredient lists! From dupe videos to dollar store (“omg there’s probably rat poo and garbage ingredients in here”) product “reviews” to making conclusions about high end vs low end products - those are all topics that would be absolutely strengthened, verified, legitimized, etc if the creators were to take some time to dig into the ingredient lists and gain understanding about what each additive does/why it’s added to formulas!! Assuming low cost equals “rat poo” and high cost equals “stunning application and wear” is totally not true! I’d LOVE to see a beauty “guru” have the spark and curiosity to include that kind of info in videos!! A quick example of just how little people know or care about ingredients: Last week I took interest into “tubing” mascara formulas. Brands do their best to NOT divulge when a mascara has a tubing formula, using cryptic language, false claims, hiding or minimizing the placement of such into on the package - so I decided to figure out how to determine if a mascara is a tubing formula the solid way - by knowing what ingredients make a tubing formula. Some Googling and YouTubing later, my conclusion is that the (second-ish) ingredient MUST be a polymer. (My conclusion isn’t the key here, so I’m not going to go into detail about that). Here’s the kicker… I came across an article from Cosmopolitan which, seemingly, was going to tell me right there what ingredient to look out for! Awesome! Or not… take a look if you’d like. Ingredient info towards the end, and in bold! It just be correct!! Haha 🙄🙄I’ll leave it at that. (Oh and don’t take their word that all of the listed are actually tubing - because not all are). I spaced out the link below because KZfaq doesn’t allow links in comments. Cosmopolitan article title: 12 Best Tubing Mascaras for Long Lashes That Don't Smudge” Website: cosmopolitan. com/. style-beauty/beauty/g28691358/tubing-mascara/

I mean... in another video I had a question about if its okay to heat up squalane because its unstable and I wasn't sure if I could heat it up with the butter ..and I didn't ask it until AFTER I scoured her awesome blog on another video and couldnt find it...and then the next day I found this video that includes a COMPLETE encyclopedia of oils so now I can go back and delete my comment cuz its answered. I think most ppl dont ever expect the influencer to answer them, more often than not we looks for someone in the comments to answer our question about their own experiences..like im doing here and now with you. But omg I agree some of those questions that you posted were really funny. The one about how can I replicate a drug store foundation? I mean, we have to remember there are probably a lot of children in the comments too

Thank You for this!!! I’ve long been dreaming of making my own body butter that’s light and powderyish without an ounce of greasy feel. I absolutely love a whipped body butter I made probably 4 years ago. However; it ended up still being greasy and I was stuck using it less often than I would’ve liked and only at night… but my skin felt amazing from it after the greasy was gone lol. It was basic and long before I was blessed to have found your channel and even more blessed that my daughter bought me your book as a birthday gift. Anyway, thanks again for this Marie, I can’t wait until I am able to try a new body butter formulation!!! (And I decided that I’m pretty good at making a really nice balm 😄since not having the result of the body butter I wanted I turned to awesome ingredient balms)

Would it be possible to add silica microspheres to a body butter like the tip for clay? I have a bunch lying around that I want to use up but I don't use makeup very much. If so, when would you add it to the formulation for say a whipped butter? During the whipping phase or melting phase?

I have a question about adding cyclopentasiloxane that wasn't covered in the blog post: if the amount of cyclopentasiloxane that I want to add exceeds 10%, could I split it up into 2 separate cool down phases & incorporate them separately? Or would it still suffer separation issues because the overall portion that wasn't subject to high sheer blending is simply too large?

@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe Жыл бұрын
Hi! So, in this case it's not really about the emulsifier as many emulsifiers can make thin lotions. It's more about the stability of the emulsion-that's where the challenge lies. In this post I've linked to a post + video about making lighter emulsions: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/where-can-i-learn-more-about-lotion-formulation/. I'd start there :)

Hi! So, no-perfume is in an alcohol base that will not mix with butters. Also, it's not a good idea to use finished store bought products in your formulations. You might be able to purchase a fragrance oil dupe of the perfume and use that, though. Happy making!
