Save money making your own Homemade fondant. This simple, easy recipe with just a few ingredients will save you money compared to purchasing the amount it makes.
Unfortunately due to the `Cost of Living` here in the UK the costs of purchasing fondant, ready made has rocketed.
This has been shared before but the video was very old as I used to make everything from scratch when I first set up my business to keep cots down whilst I built up a clientele.
So it tried and tested and i think it be be needed more than ever especially for those who make cakes as a `Side Hussle` or just want to make there childs birthday extra special.
Many bakers who buy in bulk do buy `online` but this still works out cheaper, also if you don`t spend over a certain amount online then you have to pay for postage and this is where hobby bakers may need to use the high street and the price on there are even higher than online.
I would still recommend purchasing the Difficult colours like Reds, Hot Pinks, Dark Green, Black ect as these are very difficult colours to achieve and you will most likely spend more on the colouring used.
If you are an established baker and can afford to buy it all in bulk that is great , this tutorial is for those who cant and for parents taking on this hobby to make there children's celebration cakes extra special.

I haven’t seen fondant made like that before. Interesting. Thanks you. Before I got lazy lol I had always just made fondant with marshmallows and powdered sugar. Some fondants I did have to buy because you can’t get that dark color like a dark blue, black, and red. I make a lot of cupcake toppers and one of my favorite personal recipes is I make my own modeling chocolate and then mix it with the marshmallow fondant. It is so good, you get some modeling chocolate properties like you can sculpt pieces better and it hardens better versus just plain marshmallow fondant. Not to mention, it just melts in your mouth when you eat it.

Hey Rae How are you? I hope your keeping well and it's lovely to here from you. There is an older version of this recipe on my channel and marshmallow fondant is definitely tastier BUT at the moment in the UK the marshmallows have rocketed in price just like the pre made fondant. Most of the ingredients used by larger companies are imported and the costs keep going up just at a slower rate. We tend to pick the fondant off our cakes and only use it for decoration, so this one is a really cost effective way. At the moment If I went to my local supply store and purchased four packets of 250g fondant it would cost me £10 plus. If I purchased it online (the same brand) I could get it for £7 BUT would need to spend £40 to get free postage. That's how ridiculous things have become, one of our largest manufacturers here in the UK who have been trading for over 125 years recently went into administration and have been purchased by a company based in Switzerland I think it was. That's how ridiculously expensive things are becoming, it's so sad Rae, the amount of bakers I'm seeing quiting as well, it's scary x

Hi Rachael, thank you so much for this. I used to use The Sugar Paste and now try and avoid fondant covered cakes. Can I ask, would this be equivalent? Stretchy and ne elephant skin, tears and cracks

No , you really do get what you pay for and The Sugar Paste is in my opinion one of the BEST but only when a customer is willing to pay almost ten pounds for every kg of fondant used and to cover an 8 inch round 4 inch deep cake I use 800g and 750g on the 12 inch round decorated cake drum, that's before any added decoration. So that's nearly twenty pounds just on fondant to cover a cake and cake drum however it is one of the BEST. I learned to work with this homemade version from the start, it's harder to work with but its cheaper and it just made me able to work with other brands so much easier as it's all down to practice. Even if you only use this for the cake drums it's a massive saving when people already don't truly understand the costs we have in the background when making a cake. I'm currently making one as a surprise and needed 3Kg of The Sugarpaste and 1KG of Black renshaws and it's already cost about £35 just in fondant x (crazy cost of living) xxx

Oh I know, I needed an oblong cake board and box, jeez that was £11 before starting. Even though the customer ok'd it, I didn't want to spend their money on it. This is great though, thank you very much for all your videos and tips x
