Fried Italian Long Hot Peppers are near & dear to may heart. My Grandmother & my Dad used to make them all of the time. I have liked spicy things most of my life & these are probably the reason. you can make fried peppers out of any pepper you want & they will be just as good. Its all about the method here.
2-3 #/907-1360 g Italian long hot peppers or cubanelle peppers
8 cloves garlic
3/4 cup/177 ml olive oil
salt

Speaking of evacuating your home ... I made Shakshuka last month with Scotch Bonnet peppers. It was the first time I'd cooked with these particular peppers, so I started my recipe by heating them first in my pan. It only took a few minutes for me to realize the error of my ways. It started off as just a tickle in my throat, then a slight cough, followed by more heavy coughing. The fumes wafted all the way upstairs to where my husband was working, and he started to cough. It was like I unleashed a full can of pepper spray in my house. All humans and canines had to flee the home for 15 minutes ... but damn that was some good Shakshuka! Worth it!

Frank, I am new to Italian longs hots, that's why I'm here. I got a steak and cheese hoagie at an Italian restaurant recently and I asked for hot peppers...... These were the peppers they put on, and I'm never looking back. Too bad it took me this long to discover them. Boy, what I have been missing!! Definitely a convert !

I've made this dish ever since I was a kid really. My Dad would take me to little Italian restaurants in downtown Philadelphia before going to a Flyers game and we'd always get this as an appetizer. These days I only make it on the grill in big pan just to not pepper bomb the house. Sometimes the long hots end up being "duds"... not very spicy at all, but other times there's tons of heat. Thanks for making this video!

@NotesIn9
@NotesIn9 2 жыл бұрын
@@daniellemcsorley4449 I will use a very large vintage cast iron skillet or an enameled Le Creuset type Dutch oven. The cleaned up peppers go in with olive oil. The pan is mostly on indirect heat. As the peppers start to cook and soften I’ll take some out of the pan and put over the direct heat of the grill briefly to blister and char just a little bit and then back into the pan so they don’t burn. I like getting a little color on them. I’ll add a good amount of minced up garlic near the end. That can’t go on too soon or it will burn.

Hi Chef Frank, I like your method. I had over a pound of the long hots and I followed what you said. But, I think my pan was too small. I just bought a cookware set and I used the largest pan, 10". Although the oil was hot enough for the sizzle, some peppers blistered and browned a little, but I think some of them may have steamed. How large of a pan did you use? The largest I can buy is 12" to match my set. I hope you read this and send me an answer because I need all the help I can get in the kitchen.🤣
