Friendly advice to those who may have trouble with skin, if you can't find gyoza skin, you can replace it with wonton skin (or kulit pangsit in S.E.Asia), make it round by cutting it with empty can or mug. or if you have so much times or hate yourself lol, make it by hand by: adding little salt and sesame oil to some all purpose flour, then add a little potato starch, then mix with hot water. Knead for 10 minutes into ball until somewhat stiff, leave in fridge with towel for 1 hour or so. roll into long cylinder 2 cm thick, then slice per 1 cm and flatten it with rolling pin into circular thin skin.

Get a pasta roller if you are going to make the skins homemade. I use a different recipe but I use a hand cranked pasta roller to make whole-wheat gyoza skins :) Oh, and if you make it homemade, dust each wrapper with corn starch (also called corn flour) if you need to stack them. Do not use regular flour for stacking.

I apparently hate myself, because I always make my own dumpling skins. I've only seen the pre-made ones at my local Asian food store and because they're imported they're kinda expensive.

This looks like it would be easy to make a lot of these ahead and freeze, so you can use any amount you wish later and still have some left over for another occasion like Ukrainian pelmeni. This looks delicious!! Thanks for posting.

I love Chinese dumplings. I know these are Japanese. I just love the Chinese ones, Im going to make these Japanese ones because it's the same thing different name and flavor. I usually fry the dumplings and make the shanghai style with a square wonton. I like the frying method of the gyoza. I will try it out.

uuuuuhh! I love gyoza, yes it is simple but it tastes soooo good. When I was a child and when my mother woud prepare the gyoza she would let us add all types of things to the wrappers and fry them...so much fun. The cheeze ones were so puffy and yummy. My kids love gyoza too and they just love their grandmas (obasan) gyoza. . Yours looked delicious! Thanks runnyrunny for the vid...good job!

I just made this today and it was AMAZING!!! They tasted like I got them from a restaurant. I didn't even get a chance to make the sauce because the dumplings were so good without it. I added kale to the cabbage just to get more greens in there and I used ground turkey instead of pork. A little goes a long way with this because you can only put a little bit in each dumpling otherwise it won't close all the way. Thanks for the recipe!!! Fantastic!!
