Each mat is made of two 80cm x 60cm Scrims weighing 100g (they are the mat’s bottom and top layers)
After its first run through, we then add extra hair to any of the bald patches left on the scrims.
They sandwich the Filler which is 600grams of hair, fur, wool, fleece… (1” - 4” long). (Oz and inches grams cm)
First we sort a lot of hair into bags to have a stock pile that is debris free and the right lengths.
We use a scale to measure out 100grams of 4+ inch (10cm+) long hair for scrims and make many “long hair bags”.
Next, we measure out lots of bags with 600grams of hair, fur, wool, fleece… between 1-4 inches (3-10cm), for the middle filler.
Now it’s time to start putting the hair into the machine!
To make scrims… Lay out an evenly spread layer of 100 grams of 4”+ hair over an area of 60cm wide by 80cm long.
We do the first scrim run through the machine, then we add hair to any of the “bald” spots to create a solid scrim and run through the machine again. We make many scrims in a row to have a stock pile in an even number as each mat needs 2 scrims.
Then we add filler. We lay out a 60 cm x 60 cm in the center of the 60 x 80cm, leaving 10 cm of scrim exposed border edges on each side. Then we flip It over, turn it 90 degrees and repeat with the other 2 sides
We then fold over the extra on the side to create a nice sandwiched mat with finished edges, which we run through the machine again.
And there you have it! A finished hair mat.
