While I don't understand any of the musical terminology that's being said I can appreciate your knowledge and talent that clearly comes across in this video. Pretty sure I was just trying to find out what instrument makes that iconic Zimmer sound in his soundtracks and found this video. Cheers

Hans Zimmer actually used 6 bass trombones, 6 tenor trombones, 4 tubas in the middle and 6 French horns above. Check out the making of the score.

I think he may have meant that the tubas were seated in the middle, rather than strictly playing higher than the trombones.

French horns can never achieve the strength of trumpets of trombones. In Mahlers 1st symphony finale 8 horns get the dynamic of 2 trumpets and 2 trombones.

Yeah, from studying orchestration formally, I generally see people equate the sound of 2 horns to 1 trombone or 1 trumpet.

modern composers dont care lol
@collinbrefka
@collinbrefka 5 жыл бұрын
@@kylejudkins754 What are you talking about? If they ever want to have their music played by a live orchestra, they better care! Certainly people who weren't trained formally like Hans Zimmer tend to have pretty basic/poor conceptions of orchestration, but any contemporary classical composer certainly needs to be an expert in all realms of writing and arranging! Any film composer worth his or her salt would also need to be well versed in balance and orchestration.

@@gtizzle101 I'm assuming he means that the 8 horns achieve the same dynamic level as the 2 trumpets and 2 trombones, like I stated earlier. OP may have to confirm though!

I will not proclaim I know something unless I'm very good at it. With theory, I'm aware of the meaning of scales, names of intervals, maj/min/aug/dim/sus triads, 7th chords and inversions and watched a few counterpoint videos. However, I am not actively thinking of those subjects while I compose, as I rely most on my ear. If you play one chord progression and you ask me which chords are being played, it'll take me a bit to figure that out. A master of theory will figure out instantly, will tell you what's the exact relationship between the chords, how you can make it better etc.
