It's an ounce by weight so please use a digital scale, also it is very import to fill the entire jar with water to the top, also the mesh lid is not a good idea because there is still liquid left in the herb...get the herb out and squeeze it out..you should have a whole quart of liquid from the infusion.

Does it need to be sealed? I started doing infusions and have been using canning jar lids, but noticed I have to replace the lids now and think it's such a waste. Can you just cover with a cloth or should it be sealed for 24 hours?

@@tanyaraz The canning jar of Infusion should be capped with a secure two-part lid. I don't think that you will have to replace lids. After the Infusion has steeped for a maximum of ten hours, better eight, to take the lid off, twist off the ring part, and then take a butter knife and lever the tip under the lid, gently levering upwards until any vacuum seal is released. Again, the Infusions should steep for a maximum of ten hours.

Hi there Isaiah! Great question :) When it comes to infusions, this is usually called a decoction. If you'd like a little more information on how to make a decoction, you can check out the third section of this blog post: blog.mountainroseherbs.com/herbal-infusions-and-decoctions. Decoctions are perfect for harder roots, berries, barks and seeds. They also make a stronger infusion than just using hot water! I hope that helps! - Gracie

@mountainroseherbs

Herbs can stand quite a bit of heat. Most teas are made with boiling water, and will infuse quickly. There is also a much slower method of sun tea. I would say trust your herbs, they can stand the heat :)

Hot water? Is this raw?
@vote16bc72
@vote16bc72 2 жыл бұрын
I think that some Raw Food supporters drink Tea brewed with boiling water, or Infusion. Technically, aren't all dried plants better described as 'cooked'? The walls of the cells of the plant have been broken down, thus allowing access to the nutrition inside the cell.

I was dissapointed watching this video, it gives some information but not enough information. There are many herbs you shouldn't use for herbal infusions, but this video makes it seem like any herb is ok and people who are new to using herbs could really hurt themselves....
@vote16bc72
@vote16bc72 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with your point that many plants should not be worked with to brew an Infusion. It is excellent that Mountain Rose Herbs is making this information available, but the video should include a list of the Nourishing Herbs that can be worked with to brew a Nourishing Herbal Infusion. The five foundational plants to work with are Stinging Nettle Leaf, Oat Straw, Red Clover Blossoms, Comfrey Leaf, and Linden. You can also try Violet Leaf, Hibiscus, Chickweed, Mullein Stalk and Leaf, Hawthorn Berries, Hawthorn Leaves and Flowers, Elder Berries, Burdock Root, and Marshmallow Root.

Thank you for creating a video about this important information. I do think that you should credit Susun Weed in the video and the description, someone who has presented the information about the Infusions to a broad public, for decades, through frequent speaking and writing about the Infusions. Susun Weed has also supported your company, Mountain Rose Herbs, enormously, for decades, through frequent mention of your company in speaking to people, on her website, and on her popular blogtalkradio show. I wonder how many people she has drawn to your company, and how many people have purchased large quantities of dried herbs from you, because of her? Susun Weed deserves credit. Something that I appreciate that you show in the video, that is important, is the stirring of the herb in the jar with a wooden spoon, after boiling water has been poured over the dried herb. The dried plant absorbs water, and we need to stir thoroughly with a wooden spoon, making sure absolutely all the plant gets thoroughly wet, and then fill the jar up to the brim with more boiling water, and then lid immediately, so there is no air in the jar. When a container is completely filled with boiling water (that is, has had some or all the oxygen boiled out of it), and then securely lidded and allowed to cool, the water is much more nourishing and has many more health benefits than water with a greater amount of oxygen in it. To brew an Infusion, we need to work with a scale to weigh out a full ounce, 30 grams, or more of dried herb into a Quart or Litre canning jar. Please do not guess. This is a weight, not a volume, measurement, using a scale. The five foundational plants worked with to brew Infusions are Stinging Nettle Leaf, Oat Straw, Red Clover Blossoms, Comfrey Leaf, and Linden. You can also try Violet Leaf, Hibiscus, Chickweed, Mullein Stalk and Leaf, Hawthorn Berries, Hawthorn Leaves and Flowers, Elder Berries, Burdock Root, and Marshmallow Root. Please visit www.susunweed.com/herbal_ezine/September08/anti-cancer.htm and nourishingherbalinfusions.com for more information, including specific information about many of the plants.
