How to Make Homemade Crumpets
Makes 8 to 10
150g x Plain Flour
200ml x Warm Water
1/2 tsp x Salt
1/2 tsp x Sugar
1 tsp x Baking Powder
7g x Fast Action Yeast
1 Tbsp x Warm Water
2 Tbsp x Melted Butter
1. Into a mixing bowl place the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder and 200ml of warm water and mix together until smooth.
2. Next, Add 1 tbsp of warm water to the yeast in a separate bowl and mix to make a paste.
3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and whisk until smooth.
4. Cover and leave in a warm place for 30 minutes or until foamy on top.
5. Lightly grease a frying man and a metal ring mould with melted butter. Place the pan over medium-high heat for two minutes.
6. Spoon 60g or 1/4 cup of mixture into the ring mould, turn the heat to low and cook for 4 to 5 minutes. Air bubbles will form on the top to create holes and should pop on their own but if they don’t pop, help them along with a skewer if needed.
7. Once the crumpets have cooked through and appear to have set on the top, flip them over to seal them off until lightly toasted and golden.
8. Serve with butter and enjoy!
