We take our love of food seriously here in the islands! This Hawaii original takes thinly sliced marinated beef, dipped in egg & lightly fried. A delicious meal that comes together quickly. Give it a try & lemme know what'cha think 🤙🏼
Meat Jun
1 to 1 1/2 lbs Thinly sliced Ribeye Roll (a.k.a. Bulgogi meat at Asian markets or any thinly sliced tender cut of beef about 1/8th inch thickness)
Your favorite Korean BBQ marinade, or see below for marinade recipe
3-4 large Eggs
Flour to dredge beef (about 1 cup)
Canola or Vegetable oil for frying
Marinade for Meat Jun:
½ cup Soy Sauce (I use low sodium, but use what you like)
3-4 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
2-3 coins fresh Ginger (sliced about ¼ inch thick)
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
1 Tablespoon Water
Combine above ingredients together until sugar is dissolved. Taste & adjust seasoning to taste. Add meat, cover, refrigerate & marinate for at least 1hour. You can also marinate the beef a day in advance.
When ready to cook: Make a dredging station. Whisk the eggs together in one dish, the second dish place some flour. Before you get started, get a saute pan on medium high heat & put about ½ inch of oil & get that heating. You’ll be cooking in small batches.
Dip individual pieces of beef into the flour & coat both sides, shake off excess, then coat both sides in the egg. Place the egg dipped beef into your saute pan & cook in small batches one minute per side. Drain on paper towels. Repeat until finished.
Serve with Dipping Sauce, steamed rice, kimchi & lettuce to make tasty little wraps (optional but yummy!)
Dipping Sauce for Meat Jun:
1 part white or rice wine vinegar
3 parts Soy Sauce
Gochugaru (Korean Red Chili Flakes) *optional
Toasted Sesame Oil - To taste
