Disclaimer. In this video I am sharing my personal experience in working with stock photo agencies. It is not business or legal advice of any kind.
Let's talk about stock photography agencies and how they work. It is essentially huge photo libraries with millions of images covering every possible subject. For example you are looking for an image of the Statue of Liberty for your social media website, printed publication or any other use. Sending photographer to New York City paying creative fee, expenses and taking risk of not getting the image you want Is expensive proposition. Instead you go to the website of the stock photo agency and do a search for images of the Statue of Liberty. in a matter of seconds you have thousands of images to choose from. You license the image you like and pay a fee based on the usage you need. And you done.
Where are the images coming from? Photographers like me sign contract with the agency and agree to provide images on variety of subjects. The way stock photography business works is that photographer creates images. Stock photo agency markets these images to clients and when the sale or license to be correct is made the fee is split between photographer and the agency. Different agencies offer different compensation in the range between 20 to 50% going to photographer. Photographer creates images at their own expense and agency covers all business cost related to marketing and licensing photographer’s images.

Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "making money from photographs" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Cellaatty Unimaginable Command - (search on google )? It is a smashing exclusive product for discovering how to earn money from your photos without the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my co-worker got cool success with it.

Thanks for useful explanations. I have taken a picture of a beggar, for example, in a street in India. How can I submit the model release? Is it required for such images?
@Vladimiradventurephotography

Welcome to my channel. You only need model release for commercial use of your images, if you submit it for "editorial use" usually no release required. Check your agency policy. Feel free to share any of my videos with photo community on social media. I invite you to subscribe. Good luck.

I started with a stock agency several months ago. It took a few weeks before the photos started to sell. The most frustrating thing was getting what I thought was an epic image only to have it never sell. On the other hand, an image of a container wharf, boring, has gone really well.

Welcome to my channel. I had similar situation very many times. Stock is great way to earn extra money, but don't be emotional about it it. You never know if, when and what will sell, never see result of your work, just getting some money. It is not like working directly with clients.

Excellent overview. What happens when micro stock and rights manage compete with each other? It’s so true that the cliche or common photos sell better than artistic landscapes. It’s seems that it’s getting more competitive and the ROI for me ensures that this will be an enjoyable hobby.
