Hi Guys!!!
This video introduces the process of making a lacquered accessory.
▶Craftsman Profile
Tsutomu Matsuda / Matsuda Lacquer Studio
He has been engaged in lacquering Buddhist altars and ritual articles for more than 50 years in Kyoto. He sublimates the techniques and experience he has cultivated over the past 50 years into accessories that glamorously adorn the body and soul of people. He produces genuine handmade crafts that stubbornly stick to handcrafting.
▶Craftsman Passion
"Repainting traditional art into modern art"
With the demand for lacquer decreasing rapidly, we want to convey the beauty of lacquer to a wider variety of people. With this in mind, we have incorporated the traditional techniques we have cultivated over the years into accessories to make lacquer more accessible to people.
▶Achievement
Designated as a traditional craftsman in 2014
Received award for Master Craftsman of Kyoto
Received award for the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver and Silver Rays
He has received many other awards for their work.

How do they manage to get those opal flakes soooo thin? I am in total awe of the skills required to even produce the ingredients for these pieces of art, never mind the training to become that precise, and the finger strength to go through all the filing and polishing, which must be grueling! His hands must ache terribly at the end of a work day, getting worse every year as his skills improve and his reputation grows!

Opal has great color and shine. Opal fascinates me because its color and shine change in various ways depending on the light and viewing angle. The appeal of opal is further enhanced by the processing of these highly skilled traditional craftsmen.

Each piece is a masterpiece.......I have a thousand questions as a fellow craftsman. I am only gonna ask one in hopes that someone has time to answer it. The opal that is used. I have searched everywhere.......if it is Natural opal and not "Bello opal" I have been searching for that very exact produce and can't come up with the right combination of words to find it. Whether it's called flake, crushed or etc. Please help me in when sourcing that exact opal can be located. Obviously if its a secret please just say that. I in not way would want to interfere in you're business. Thank you good sir.

Beautiful work, however that is not a true opal piece...it is a handmade triplet. The lacquer protects the crushed opal pieces, so you don't need to oil them.
