HOW TO MAKE POKE Simple Shoyu Ahi, Marlin, and Tako Poke Recipe with Ogo/Sashimi Fish Cutting

Hi Everyone!
Today, Aunty Claire is teaching my cousins, Aly, Billy and I how to cut fish and how to make Shoyu Poke. I remember making this recipe as a little kid and it is simple and delicious! I hope you enjoy!
Shoyu Ahi Poke Recipe
1-1/5 lb fish
1/2 C-1 C. Shoyu (Aunty Claire recommends Yamasa Shoyu)
1 T (or to taste) Sriracha
1/2 C. Thinly sliced sweet onion
1 stalk green onion
handful of ogo (optional)
Tako Poke Recipe
1 lb cooked tako
3 T. Shoyu (I doubled the recipe in the video)
1 C. Sliced fresh cucumber
1 tomato (diced)
1/2 C. chopped onion
1 t. sesame oil
(for spice, add 1 Hawaiian red chile pepper)

It was lovely to see your relatives in this episode...the men in your family are quite helpful in the kitchen! 🌺🌼 The poke making process seems less daunting, and my husband now wants to attempt it, thanks to this tutorial. Hi!!! Yes, this recipe is super easy... didn't realize that either until we made it. I'm sure your poke will be amazing as well. Im learning that it's really all about the fish that you buy... the fresher, the better. Have a wonderful weekend!

You definitely can, but it has a strong fishy flavor if it’s not fresh and well-bled out. It also has a large bloodline that has to be cut out or it will taste awful. When prepared correctly, it’s pretty good!

David Chang, the noted Korean-American chef, asked about what kind of shoyu is best for raw tuna, said "Usukuchi," which is light-color shoyu, and I use Kikkoman Usukuchi, tho there are other brands. The "Light-colored" does not mean it is "light" shoyu in flavor or sodium content -- it is simply made lighter in color to maximize "the look" on tuna. Try it, it's terrific, tho I'm not crazy about Kikkoman's generic shoyu, it's a bit harsh. But it is "brewed," as shoyu should be, unlike the local shoyu in Hawaii, which I'm told is simply ingredients mixed together, and not brewed.

When using onion raw cut the onion and soak change the water 3 times and drain.
