LEGIT WORK Bro! The one thing that would’ve helped you out was to carry your 16” on center layout throughout your framing starting from left to right regardless on where your openings for bbq, doors and drawers are. You wouldn’t have had to put those studs in for seam support nor would you have to cut much of that Durarock to length. Especially if the full length and width was at 8’, 12’ or 16’. You just slap each board on and make your cut outs with a reciprocating saw and correct blade and boom! Ur done. I like the concrete tops. The edges are so crisp and straight. Perfection has been GOT!

D.I.Y Eddie Metal studs are great to work with. There’s a few tricks to them you can do to make the job easier and more sturdy. Also using a chopsaw with a carbide tipped 60 tooth blade cuts them way easier than a grinder with a cut off blade. Loud as F$&k but quick. I’m in the throws of designing my outdoor cabana patio kitchen (whatever) and I learned a few things from your vids that’ll use on mine. Keep up the good work.

Did you go back and trim cement board flush with edge if cabinets before pouring? I saw in your other video there was already a decent overhang with the cement boards, but then in this one you said you put 2x4 in to get you the 1.5 inch gap from the cabinet. Looking to build something like this, but will be using 2x4 framing. As it is covered

Hey Eddie, im doing my first concrete project, i built a Base for an outdoor bbq , and im going to pour the top 4” reinforced with rebar, using Quikrete Prograde Countertop mix, any thoughts i see i should use melamime forms and caulk the esdges and some use wax or ive seen common olive oil to line the inside surfaces..... Do i have to wait 2 weeks to continue building on top of it?
@d.i.yeddie6075
@d.i.yeddie6075 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Sebastian, 4" of concrete is pretty heavy, have you thought of doing the edges 4" and the base 2"? Yes you can use melamine or plywood coated with wd40 or some sort of release agent (any lubricant oil wd40 etc or release wax is good) Typically 24-36 hours concrete is hardened to walk or touch but as time goes on the hardness keeps increasing, I recommend waiting atleast one week before setting something heavy or removing overhang frames

Eddie! Looks great. Does your cut out depth for the grill include the over hang? The grill I want to put in requires a 20 5/8" depth cutout. I'm not sure if this cutout is from the cement board on the front of my rough in framing, or if I need to add the 1 1/2" overhang of my countertop. It is a napoleon grill. The opening dimensions are a little unclear. Thx!

Nice Video. I am going back and forth between cinder block and metal studs to support the concrete countertop. Was not sure 25 gauge Big Box store Metal studs would work. What gauge studs did you use and did you get them at a box store? How far apart to did you place them. How thick was your counter top, 2"?
@d.i.yeddie6075
@d.i.yeddie6075 6 жыл бұрын
Frank Dalessandro I located a drywall supplier near by they had 18 or 20 gauge studs i spaced them out at 16", 25 gauge studs are really thin screws dont really grab. I believe the concrete countertop was 1.5" which is minimum thickness for Sakcrete 5000.
@d.i.yeddie6075
@d.i.yeddie6075 6 жыл бұрын
Frank Dalessandro as far a concrete block vs metal studs I have done bbq's both methods. I like both but metal studs were way easier and didnt require more than a 4" slab. Cut outs for concrete block consisted of framing out opening and either pouring a header or using single blocks to make a header and fill with concrete.

Really appreciate the quick response. I just realized you had several videos and went back an watch all of them several times. Great end to end overall Info. Very appreciative you taking the time to post. I am basically building a U Shape Kitchen so this was perfect!! Your second paragraph address many of the issues (Vents, Receptacles, headers, larger doors than top appliance) and was starting to think I was going to have to start pouring concrete to facilitate those areas, and hence why I started to consider metal studs. Based on your feed back called a few drywall distributors and found the 20ga. studs. Perfect!! Appreciate the measurements to. My Wife really likes how you used tile on the sides!!

Norman Tenke I used sakcrete 5000, I have 2 minor stress cracks on my top which I showed in the video because of the wire mesh being too high in those areas. They make special countertop mixes which have different chemicals and fiberglass but they are a lot more expensive. Just remember to use a reinforcement when using sakcrete 5000 high strength concrete. As far as forming just make sure there is no movement when pouring.

We just used sakrete 5000 plus for our countertop and it was a complete disaster. I managed to barely save the top face but the amount of aggregate and the terrible mixture from adding water would never allow me to reccomend using 5000 plus

that's unfortunate, I didn't have much trouble using it, it does have a good amount of aggregate because it is a high strength mix. one thing to be cautious about is the amount of water mixed in and the weather because it can set too fast.

Don't have anyone ever sitting or dancing on that countertop. No offense but there's no way this is structurally sound adding that much weight over a flimsy high gauge steel studs framing structure.
