Ever since I saw the first one, variations on this design have proliferated all over YT. There may even be more of these retractable caster videos than on finding Hitler's Mercedes. I've watched a lot of these videos, and I've tried three - there's one for the tablesaw and I've built two for my workbenches. And I'm here to tell you, this is how it's done, right here. This is the Right Way to do it. Thanks, Tayler. Ramblin' on: even Carl may not be the first guy to demonstrate the basic concept, which is to mount the casters on a hinged length of wood and use your foot to raise it. That's oversimplifying but fundamentally that's it. Some of the videos make it more complex than a 747. I really love those videos, those Rube Goldberg contraptions, as long as somebody else is doing all that unnecessary work. At least one has computer controlled stepper motors. Some of the videos show how to screw it up, which is mind-boggling, like screwing up an anvil with a rubber mallet. Hint: stay away from anything showing more than one spring. Another hint: if the guy pulls out a welder, click out. The same, if the guy uses a 100 ton punch. Most of the videos just show how to do it the same but different. But this video here is the grail. Build 'em this way, you'll be fine.

Tayler, I'm so pleased, and flattered, that a craftsman such as yourself took inspiration from my video. Thanks for including my video id number in your description. Your entryway and dining room woodwork is superb. You have so many beautiful native woods in NZ, Thx//carl

Thanks to you and Carl for the great videos. Just completed one for my table saw using scrap pieces.

just made one of these for my table saw, only difference was I did not add the small bit on the end of the lever, did not see the point, I just have the arm which I pushed on sit directly on the other arm.

Tayler Where do you get those hinges? They are just the right size and strength. I did not want to over engineer. Thx Bob

You have some nice clamps there, why do yo not use them? Still nice idea which I am about to use for my new table saw. Thanks for the post. Normski UK

Tayler Help, where did you get your hinges from? I am in USA. And can’t dine any like that. They look real convenient and just right size. Thx Bob

The glitchy parts are tripping me out! LOL Nice job however!

i noticed your swivel casters hit the sides and back. that would be very bad if you used this design on a heavy object like a table saw

+Tango Papa 36 i think its a bit of an optical illusion on camera. they do actually clear, but the castors were pretty cheap and don't swivel that well. next time i will invest in a better set. but thanks for taking the time to comment.

thanks for the vid, but your design with the wheels so far inboard is dangerous. Bad idea if it's on something HEAVY, and that;s what you need casters on. Also the 'hook' doesn't look to be secure enough for my money if on a heavy tool -- and with the wood grain might split. Would be better to have a metal gate or some other type.

neither machine needs to move more more than a few inches so it suits my purposes. yes it could be more heavily engineered but for my use it is strong enough.

Why do so many videos just start in with the build, and not show us what they are building? Please show us where you are going at the beginning, then the build makes SO much more sense. It also lets me decide much earlier if I want to watch your video. If I have to jump through the video to see it's not interesting, I'll give you a thumbs down, while if I can see it at the beginning, I won't.

it shows the finished product at the beginning so i am unsure what the problem is apart from needing a moan.

Sorry, I must have started in the middle somehow.

Similar happened to me; restarted 3X to get beginning; and was worth it. Good idea!
