Sambhar recipe post :
For the pressure cooker
1. 1 cup Sambhar dal (with skin if possible)
2. 1 onion chopped
3. 3/4 green chilly as per taste
4. 1 radish chopped in rounds
5. Curry leaf 1 sprig
6. Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
7. Ghee 1/2 table spoon
For the Sambhar :
1. Oil - 2 Table spoon
2. Hing - 1/2 Tsp
3. Methi seeds - 1/2 Tsp
4. Small onions- peeled whole - 200 g
5. Drumstick - one whole - chopped into 4-5 pieces
6. Sambhar powder (home made or store bought) 3 Table spoon
7. 3 tomato - puréed
8. Tamarind - soaked in water
9. Coriander
10. 1 small tomato - chopped roughly into 4 pieces
11. For the Tadka
12. Oil 1 table spoon
13. Mustard seeds , Channa dal , urad dal - 1 Tsp each
14. Red chilly - 3/4
15. Curry leaf - 1 sprig
16. Final garnish - jaggery and coconut grated as per taste
1. Wash the dal and drain water.
2. Add 1 cup water
3. add onions , radish , chilly , curry leaf, turmeric powder and ghee
4. Keep on the stove at medium flame for 3 whistles and set aside
5. Heat a kadhai for Sambhar
6. Add oil
7. Once heated add Hing and methi seeds
8. Add small onions
9. Add drumstick
10. Add Sambhar powder (pls refer Instagram recipe)
11. Add tomato purée
12. Mix well
13. Add 2 cups water
14. Add tamarind water
15. Add rock salt to taste
16. Add more water if needed and check the taste. It can be slightly watery since the dal will make it thicker
17. Add the cooked dal from the pressure cooker
18. Add coriander roughly chopped
19. Add chopped tomato
20. Keep stirring and wait for 5-10 mins as it cooks
For the tadka :
1. Heat oil in a kadhai
2. Add urad dal , Channa dal and mustard seeds
3. Add red chilly - 3-4
4. Once heated add curry leaves
5. Once crispy add the Sambhar into this kadhai
Mix a bit and add jaggery and grated coconut as per taste.
Enjoy hot hot Sambhar !!
