Definitely keep em, I use to do this for a living 35 yrs ago, came over to the state's for the world sound off Arizona 🔉🔉 Toured the Rockford Fosqate factory 🏭 great memories. Anyway I digress !! I'm about to do an installation into my son's car so I've been checking out some videos on various techniques, love the molded mess and keep those videos coming 👍🏻

first off, I always keep my rear speakers, since all of my cars actually get normal use and are not full show or comp cars, I often have passengers and I know they would prefer to enjoy the sound vs just hearing the bass right behind them. second, been loving these series of tutorials. been building boxes for years as a 15+ year professional installer and all the router tips I've picked up here have really taken my creations to the next level! I really cant say thanks enough and keep the videos coming Mark!

Got to have my rears. I want to be sitting on that stage with the musicians, not listening from the back. I fade 100% to the rear then bring up the fronts until the rears just about disappear. I like a 55/45 split. Don't need super high end speakers in the rear but a system does sound much better with them.

Never considered before. I like the concert experience as I do with home theaters. Surround sound is always better than just stereo sound. My opinion! BTW, great show. Keep the good work.

Most songs don't play in surround sound. It's completely useless unless you go out of your way to find surround sound songs. For audio quality you want the speakers in the front only.

Run the fronts off the best two channel amp you can find, coming off the 'Front Out' rca's. Then, run the rears off the deck's rear speaker outputs. You'll have a less abrasive sound experience for the rear passengers that way, as well as less interference with the Front stage.

Thats how I do it - with a bass blocker on the rears to eliminate distortion and phase issues. Not a fan of rear fill - destroys the soundstage... in many of my installs I've removed them.

I ran Rear speaker as fill and acoustic reverb! In a concert hall you have the Performers on stage true, but you also get that reflection off the rear of the Arena. I always placed in the Top Three during Sound Q competition with this affect. Low watts and resistance for timing and alignment! Motor Man AM Sound Works

rear speakers on the back dash of a car are definitely worth keeping. the sound is reflected back up front by the back windshield. rear door speakers are good for your rear passengers.

I keep my rears in my personal vehicles for a couple reasons. 1 in my truck I have an overhead monitor and always fade the speakers to the rear so my kids can hear the movie and I don't get blasted out in the front seats. Secondly I usually have passengers in the rear also and its nice for them to have speakers also. Besides if I want only front stage when im by myself ill just fade to the front.great channel you have here thanks for sharing all your tips and tricks

I used to never have rear speakers in my install but since i amped my parcel shelf speakers on a high pass and cranked them up id never go back. Feels like such a more full sound. I guess feels like the difference between a surround sound styled feel compared to just tv speakers in a home system. But as everything i guess it would come down to preference... Love your video's Mark! Keep up the good work. So many tips and tricks have been learnt!!

Newer cars, like my 2016... i kept the rear fill primarily for the back up sensor. I only amplified the front stage. 1. saves $ on not needing another 2 channels. 2. I do like a little rear fill as long as its 80-90% faded to the front or time aligned to the front.

In my current set-up I have a pair of 3-way 6x9 from Rockford Fosgate but only as "rear fill", I use a separate amp, with only a minimum level. In the front I have a 4-way sepatate component layout with dedicated amps and cross over.

Screw the rears. A killer front stage is way more important. Rears just drag the soundstage behind you.

From my experiences I always like to keep the rear speakers. Full surround is what I have always like. Its a more balanced and approached concept. Without everything its a naked and muted spectrum. IMO..

I have my door and rear deck speakers. Keep them there for friends riding around so they have something screaming in their ears :)

Great video, as I've come to expect from you. I generally use coaxial speakers powered by my head units internal amp as rear fill. I keep rear fill for volume. I can't hear them specifically, but I can tell a difference in overall volume when I'm driving.

I always use rear fill in my sound systems, with 8Ω speakers so as not to overpower the front stage and provide just the right amount of sound for the rear passengers and myself. My current rear fill set-up uses a set of 3-inch mid-range speakers with a 1-inch tweeter on a custom baffle in the stock location of my 3-door 1985 Corolla GT-S.

The louder the better. I had components in the front doors of my 2007 Honda fit and 2-ways in the back. I didn't like how it was muffled in the rear so I added components to all 4 door panels. Best decision ever as the sound fills the cabin much more uniformly. This can only be achieved if you sound dampen the whole care so that way you get the most acoustics out of the instruments.

I like to keep front and back speakers. As long as one doesn’t overpower the other, you get a nice even fill. Especially when you have a loud system. So no matter where you are in the car, the music sounds the same.

Dude you do an awesome job AND make it look super easy. I use mids/highs in front location; lows/woofers in rear location to fill gap between subs and mids; and subs in trunk or rear location.

I am definitely watching your videos man. I must say i'm a big 2 channel guy in home. In the truck I wasn't sure what to do so I went ahead and deleted the rears. Working on a nice sq front stage.

i went back and fourth a few times on rear speakers in the end I just put midwoofers in, it doesn't distract from the highs in the front stage but still fills nicely

i am currently building a system- 3 way active front and subwoofer only. i had the same thoughts about a live performance- you would not have some of the instruments/ singers behind you, so all the sound (echos excluded) comes from the front. it will have to sound more natural, which is the ultimate goal for audiophiles.

Front speaker installation, would skip the rear speakers, depends on the car of course. Did an installation once, where I had 3 way sett in front and only two ten inch subs in the rear shelf, the sound was very good and even the people that sat in the back thought there were some speakers in the rear. But I also thing this is very personalized. And thank you Mark for all the great videos ;)

It depends on the person. I have a front stage set up but still have the rear speakers just for friends to listen to while sitting in the back. I like to use all speakers as much as possible

Typically my installs are in convertibles... So I keep the rear fill to help fill over the wind noise. All other installs, I delete them. You shouldn't need them with proper staging. Ps. Your videos are so inspirational and educational. Thanks for your hard work.

In my opinion personal opinion you should keep rear speakers, but use them in unison with the fronts to help you feel like the concert is around you.. not necessarily you in front of a concert. Also i like to split up my frequencys between speakers so that way my rear speakers (usually larger) pick up the low-midrange, and my front speakers pick up my high mid-upper range. Just my $.02

My personal choice is to keep all spakers in the car, and maby even add a center speaker, just for the top mid and high just for the vocals so make it a 3.1 system all speakers play stereo and adjust the center to play the vocal range and high notes. That would make the feeling of a stage:) BTW LOVE YOUR CHANEL KEEP UP!! Driving a Audi A4 03 Denmark

My thoughts on the final question... I say YES, keep the rear fill. Your ears can pick up direction. At a concert, the sound is in front of you initially but then surrounds you in the form of reverb or reflected sound. I like rear fill delayed through time alignment and reduced output volume.

Yeah but for overall sound quality that's a horrible idea. having Reverb is the same as bad as distortion. I don't want to hear the same song Twice. When it comes to listening to music having only two channels is perfectly fine. In most cases it's better. In fact the best sounding system would be only kicker panels in the front and then Subs in the back.

I left my stock rear speakers in my tahoe until I replace them. I just custom mounted 2 speakers in my front door panels. I'm gonna do a custom insert soon. Looks great man.

Front and rear. It may be the audiophile experience to have it in front, but i feel the back speakers give you a feeling of being IN the orchestra as opposed to watching it on stage.

Depends on the vehicle on the type of speaker, but yes generally. A good mid base speaker in smaller cars, but in a suburban you may want to do component front and rear if you travel with more than just one person.

I have done both ways but on my personal cars I never use rears. I like to keep the extra channels free on my amp to bi-amp my components or run a dedicated midbass on one channel and mid/high on the other.

I not only always keep the rear speakers i install components front and rear same power same quality. I found it to better fill the cab for all passengers. Our ears automatically point forward so no rear over sound is heard but the rear passengers can then enjoy more than bass.

keep the rear they don't have to be on all the time if u don't want them , but when u have people in the back seat u can keep them on.. I run image dynamics xs69's in the front of my 2013 maxima and ID ctx69s in the rear.. sounds great to me , looking forward to getting on your level !

I know a lot has changed since I was doing this in the early 90s, but when I went to the Rockford Technical Institute they adviced using 8 ohm speakers for rear fill.

@@rodneykupcs4141 instead of trying to go out of your way to get different ohm ratings and worrying about your amplifier, why don't you simply use your EQ that's built into the most aftermarket radios? That just seems more logical to me... you have the option, why would you take it for granted?

Some people like to remove them to give the sub more vent to move more air but I like a in-close box so I keep them

Rear fill. The front to rear transfer is just as important as stereo. Sound still echoes in a recording studio as it does in a concert hall. Though it's a tiny bit, sound still comes 360° around you. Amplitude is what rips your head off in a properly balanced system. You're trying to recreate a concert hall environment in your car. You HAVE to have rear fill, just in far smaller quantity than the front stage

I always use rear fill. I never attend concerts and therefore never try to "recreate" that concert experience. I love how 8 sets of mids sounds.

I do rear speakers because it helps the sub in the trunk not seem so distant. I like the sub to blend with the front speakers, so that you almost cant tell there is a huge speaker in a single location in the rear of you. The car audio environment has many challenges, and there is almost always a compromise.

This is true but you can achieve that effect easier with strong midbass up front like using a second set of 6.5" set at bandpass filter or even an 8" sub done the same way.

Are you driving in a fucking limo? Lol. If you're having problems with it sounding too far away, that means you either don't have enough Bass, or you don't know how to design an enclosure properly.

Keep them. You can always use the fader to mute them when you don't want or need them. It is also a good way to get a little more output when jamming out.

I prefer keeping the rear speakers. I’m a brand new noob to car audio construction but I do like having rear speakers for backseat passengers. If no back seat then no need.

I keep the rear speakers. Usually use 2- way's @ 8 ohms. Keeps them in the back ground but help with making a fuller sound stage IMO.

I like to have the back speakers just as fillers due to the subwoofer and that in my opinion make everything sound more complete. I fade them at around 60% (I own a VW Golf MK2)

I keep them. I personally do prefer to have a little bit of rear fill. Plus I often times will use larger speakers just to emphasize the lower mid bass frequencies.

First off, Mark, great video and very informative. Second, when dealing with soundstaging, it depends on how "audiophile" you want to get and do you have the equipment to do it correctly? If so, you must use a processor correctly so that the staging effect really works like it should. I use the rear to accomplish what the sound actually does in an auditorium, in other words, I time the sound to act as though the sound has reflected off the back wall of the listening area and creates a natural effect of being at a concert type situation. That however, takes time and effort in the setup of the system in question. As I said before, if you have the equipment to do so, you can make some really excellent sounding soundstaging. However, pure audiophiles will not like this and insist on deleting the rear speakers due to correct positioning. In reality it is whatever each person prefers by their own ears. Love this look man. Great to see more vids come out. I have experience with no rear speakers (amps went out on stock rears). Front stage was fine and had sub. Sounds like poopie. I love hearing the full range front to back and left to right and some bump.

CarAudioFabrication I look at it as immersion, yeah a band plays in front, but they way the acoustics are set up, the people in the middle get sound from the front back and sides. In order to reproduce that appropriate staging is needed. I was just using my car as an example.

First comment and first view. I keep the rear stage speakers. Had a conversion with my friend about this. He brought up that it gives you more of the surround sound rather then just sound from the front. After trying it out I liked it and stuck with it. I usually go with components up front coaxial in the back.

As a proud owner of a Trailblazer, my stock speakers would only get in the way. I’m thinking of sticking a couple 3.5” midsizers back there that I have from my old Infinity Kappa Perfect 600, my first car audio install, so that the sub doesn’t overpower my passengers, but I would never use the stock speakers. It’s like sticking a Ford motor in a Toyota.

Ditch the rears. I'm running 2 way active with a 4 channel Amp and the 80prs. I still have my rears hooked to the deck I just don't have the internal Amp on. I'm constantly switching my stuff around and if you unhook your tweeters you can turn on the internal Amp and the rear speakers will be on the high HPF in network mode

I always take rear speakers out of rear deck. Cause the sub woofers, make the rear deck speakers excursion way over there limit. I find put all speakers in each door. That way at shows everyone car see the doors. Also has a cleaner sound.

only got 2 speakers in the doors at the moment but im installing the rear really soon and going to be using the exact same speakers as the front. Its because when i have passenger in the back most people say the sub is very boomy and can hardly hear the mid/high.

If will also keep the rear speakers. They don't have to be as great as the front stage but you do need them. I have 4 6.5 mids and 2 super tweeters on my back deck and it sounds good

Depends on the size of vehicle for me. For a large vehicle I use discreet rear fill.

I prefer to only keep rear fill if it's a passenger vehicle that actually has people in the rear seat often. A bandpassed 5.25 or 6.5 midwoofer run passive off the deck is usually plenty if you have a strong front stage or small amp if you have a very bass heavy vehicle.
