Hey I was wondering where you got your ring bender
@edmisterman3 жыл бұрын
Search “spoon ring bender” on Etsy. Honestly, mine was expensive, but you can probably find it elsewhere on the web for cheaper and similar quality

It's nice to see a young hippie. We are getting old. I wanted to make a spoon ring but I never could find a sterling spoon and I don't think I could bend the silver plated ones but since I've your video I'm going to try. You made it look so easy. Thanks Dude.
@edmisterman Жыл бұрын
You got it! Make sure not to dent the silver; use a rag or something you don’t mind putting holes in whenever it’s in contact with a different metal, and it’s reasonable to do so. Like, you don’t need a rag when you’re using the mandrel, but if you have a ring bender, then definitely put something in there to avoid damage to the ring 👍 have a good one, friend!

This does work great with silver, however I believe this actually hardens steel, unless you’re bending it while it’s hot

@edmisterman2 жыл бұрын
I got into it by seeing a spoon ring at a concert one time, and deciding that it was pretty cool. I get most of my utensils from good will. Sometimes you can find big sets of fancy flatware on Facebook marketplace for cheap though.

What steps would you take to make a ring out of stainless steel ? Is it just a lot more effort or would you not even go there because the metal is so tuff
@edmisterman2 жыл бұрын
Great question! The ring I make in the video is actually stainless steel. I actually prefer it. The only problem happens when the utensil is too thick, but by then, it would be uncomfortable to wear anyway.

@edmisterman2 жыл бұрын
I think you may have some difficulty. I have personally tried it a few times and it has never worked out. Maybe you could try finding very thin spoons? That might give you better luck, but I would recommend using a hammer and a circular piece of metal if you don’t want to spend more money on an actual ring bender.

Do you use steel for making rings? Can steel be used, or must the starting silverware be actual silver?
@edmisterman8 ай бұрын
Yes, many of the utensils I use are stainless steel. They tend to be a little harder to work with, but are less likely to have scrapes and dents from the ring bender. A lot of people prefer silver, but I find that it tends to turn my finger green, unlike stainless steal, which will never do that!
@tkarlmann8 ай бұрын
@@edmisterman Do you ever anneal Stainless Steel? How is that done? (I know it needs to cool slowly.)
@edmisterman8 ай бұрын
@@tkarlmann Great question! No, I have never annealed stainless steel. For me, the time and effort it takes is only worth it if you have a very specific spoon that is very difficult to bend, but even then, you may be able to achieve the same effect by just working with it while it's hot. You can probably find a couple videos online on the best way to anneal a small stainless steel project if you're still interested in that. Best of luck!
