Shopping List:
2 lbs Sweet Potatoes
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
pinch of salt
pinch of nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon (season to taste)
1 tsp lemon zest
2 tbsp all purpose flour
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp butter extract
4 tbsp butter
2 beaten eggs
Topping:
1 Cup crushed pecans
5 tbsp melted butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar
salt and cinnamon to taste

Yall I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a HUGE hit! If anybody is wondering about the 1/2c of sugar that listed vs him saying 1c of sugar. The recipe that's in the description is the correct amount. 1/2 c of white and 1/2c of brown is enough sugar for 2lbs of sweet potato.

I made this over 20 some years ago… While my mother was still living. When she tasted it, she said it was my job from that point on to do the sweet potatoes every year afterwards. Everybody loves that casserole that I make.

Made this for Thanksgiving this year, and the family and I loved it! Doubled the potatoes but kept the same amount of topping and threw a few marshmallows on top at the end'ish. This was the best sweet potato casserole I've ever made and I've been making them for years! Thank you!

I made this last week for my husband who swears by the Ruth's Chris version. He ate one pecan off the top when I removed it from the oven and was like, "I already know this is 🔥" LOL We ate that entire pan in 2 days. So. Dang. Good. Your recipes never miss, man!! The lemon is a brilliant idea. I also added some lemon juice too. I reduced the sugar to about 2/3 the suggested amount and added a pinch of cloves too...

Love sweet potato casserole(s) especially the topping. In your attached recipe for the topping you left out the amount of flour needed. I wondered why my topping was not looking like yours until I went back and rewatched you preparing it. 👍

Quick question. Did you use 1C white sugar and 1C brown sugar or a half cup each. The video and recipe say different things.

@@cb0613 I started off with 1/2 cup but found it needed more and one cup of each seemed like a lot so I used 3/4 of a cup of each and it was perfect

Love this casserole. When I was a kid I wasn't allowed to help in the kitchen, because my Mom said, we were poor, and I couldn't let you waste food. My Mom would always add sugar and salt when she boiled sweet potatoes. Live your recipes.

How much sugar did you use? 1cup each like he said or less? How much?

@@Brii_Lynn you talking about how much sugar in the actual casserole and the topping? I think initially I used 1 cup each but when I made the 2nd time I did 1 cup for the casserole and a 1/2 cup for the topping. If you like it really sweet 1 cup If not cut it in half.

I can't wait for the collaboration I love banana pudding and the fact that you're going to make a banana putting pound cake sounds so good. My Easter menu was going to be collard greens, featuring hot water cornbread, macaroni and cheese from scratch, your sweet potato casserole. I'm taking a little help from Costco I'm getting a couple of their rotisserie chickens and cutting it up. Not sure what I'm going to do for dessert yet.
