+THE WADS What a lovely idea! If that picture is you, that means your kids are still young. Teach ALL your children to cook, male or female. A five year old is old enough to serve the younger ones (this is often done in montessori schools), and even younger ones can be taught how to wipe and set the table, so everyone can feel part of the meal prep. When they are a tiny bit older, teach them how to make a meal once / week for the family. Meanwhile, as you find "forever" recipes for your family, begin a Family Cookbook. Do this sooner than later, so you don't find yourself wishing later. One last thing. There are amazing books out there to inspire you on making lasting memories with your family. My favorite is "Let's Make a Memory" by Gloria Gaither and Shirley Dobson. A wonderful saying I once read was, "A child won't remember all the THINGS they were given, but they'll remember the EXPERIENCES they shared." (Sorry, not exact quote, but close!) Remember to do these things WITH your spouse involved, and make intentional scrapbooks based on these experiences. It will bring your family experiences to a whole higher level. (I'm sorry. I hope I didn't offend you with unsolicited advice. I started to just say, "Make a family cookbook while your kids are still young," but I couldn't stop gabbing! My daughter is almost 18, and memories will be all we have now.)

Great video. Alternatively chop tomatoes in half and roast in the oven with olive oil and basil and a sprinkling of sea salt. Then push them through a sieve to extract the skins and add chopped garlic to the sauce and simmer for half an hour. The roasting intensifies the tomato taste and the simmering allows all the flavours to infuse. Add to pasta and enjoy!

Candace Lewis Pick one tomato out of the oven with a spoon after about half an hour - if the skin falls away from the tomato when you pull it with your thumb and finger they're ready. The temperature should be around 200c so if you're not sure what that is go to a temperature converter and you can find out for your oven. Cheers!

5 seconds into this video I knew I loved this woman! If only the public could follow her example of how to make a video (let alone a real sauce). From intro to end, she captivated my attention. I love a true spaghetti sauce, not one loaded with cheese baked in the oven with corn mixed in. That's such an insult to Italian cooking. Thanks for sharing. I definitely will subscribe!.

+Cook-ee Irvin CORN mixed in? YIKES! Oh, I've been missing something! (Not interested in corn being mixed in, though!) My mother is 92 and is 100% Italian. She was taught to "be American", so she has literally forgotten her heritage, which makes me sad. So I've been trying to learn FOR her. I see her in about 3 months. After watching this video, I've decided that I want to cook something Italian for her and speak to her in Italian, as well. Now I can say, "I used fresh pomodoros!" :D

+Cook-ee Irvin And I appreciate that there wasn't some 15- to 30- second advertisement first! I liked the music, her energy, etc., all within the first few seconds, and she maintained the momentum throughout. We've been using canned, store-bought tomato sauce all these years, but I thought this time I should look into how to make my own. I would think it's healthier(?). Does it tastes better, too?

I had my Aunt teach me how to make (Gravy) Red Sauce. My mother never taught me how to cook at all. She never allowed us in the kitchen. I don’t know why, maybe her mother didn’t allow her. My mom was an excellent cook, and she loved many meals I prepared for her. I’m so glad I found this recipe because my grandparents lived next door to us, and Grandpa always had a garden. I don’t ever remember my mom making sauce from all the tomatoes from his garden. I know he grew Oxheart Tomatoes, which were very meaty tomatoes. He saved the seeds on a screen frame. The recipe my aunt used was from canned tomatoes.

Roast those tomatoes with garlic, basil and a drizzle of olive oil in a 400° oven for 45 minutes to one hour, then mash or puree and finish cooking on the stove top. I add caramelized onions, green pepper, more basil and more garlic (you can never have too much garlic). You'll have a great roasted tomato sauce to enjoy!

Ick, no. If you use the right tomatoes (like San Marzano) you don't need added sugar.
@spgtenor
@spgtenor 5 жыл бұрын
@@williamreely3455 Sugar actually should be used in almost all sauces, as well as salt. Remember, sugar doesn't just cut the acidity of the tomatoes, but it balances the salt and helps bring everything together.

We picked a bunch of red, ripe tomatoes and made this. Had to use dried basil, and cooked it down more, but oh, how good it was! Amazing! So few ingredients and so perfect. Thank you! My Italian grandma would be proud of me.

I made your tomato sauce today with ingredients fresh from the garden. I have to say that's the best tomato sauce I've ever tasted. Simple ingredients, big flavor. I did add some Italian seasoning, I love Italian seasoning i even put it on my burgers with a little garlic salt and onion powder. Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipe.
