it is easier to create space before a drop by creating a void preceded by an impact and within that void anticipate the melody of the drop by filtering it or chopping it.Trick that works on any type of genre. It is also very efficient to create a space with a single-note "pedal" perhaps on a semitone before the harmony of the drop to create tension and perhaps accompanied by floor tom accents.
