Measuring the pitch of a gear for an RC vehicle is actually very easy. To simplify the process, jump on to the radio control info website and use the gear calculator. The gear calculator requires 2 inputs and then simply hit the go button and the pitch is calculated.

Great info. I found 3 bags with pinions in my spare parts boxes. I know there's some 48p, some mod .6 , but for some of them it isn't obvious to say whether they're P of mod. So I used the calculator and these are the results from 22 pinions : 8 of them were Tamiya 0.6mod and measured as 0.55, 0.56, 0.57 and 0.58mod. None were actually 0.6mod. 2 other pinions were identified as 47,9P - we'll call that 48 . 5 others were identified as 0.52mod or 48,8P - no idea so we'll make that 48P as well (because two of them are known 48P Kyosho pinions) ?... 4 others turned out to be exactly 0.5m but 3 out of 4 are definitely not .5mod (# teeth incompatible with the car) : one of them was new in an unopened bag; a RW Racing 48P 18t pinion ???. I also checked a Novak 32P that turned out to be 32,2P. And a Robinson Racing 1mod that turned out to be .97mod. To top it off, I uninstalled a known .5mod and that came out as .48mod. So I don't know what to think of this calculator. Either the calculator is lacking precision or the brands making the pinions are.

good video buddy!!! the question is how can we calculate the pitch cycle diameter of pinion gear??? (I don't know if I'm expressing it right.) i have problem with my rc motor pionion gear.....wears out very quickly I want to change it and I don't know the inner diameter....... I searched for information and the only answer I got from the company is that i must buy new motor and that "they dont know" the inside dimension of pinion gear and they dont sell seperately pinion gear for this motor :-) :-) i dont want buy new motor, its not broken.....just want change the pinion gear of the motor.
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure why you need the diameter you are after. This should not matter as it is built in to the pitch of a gear if I understand you correctly.

Is this calculator glitchy ?? I’ve pulled 3 gears off a basically brand new redcat gearbox, and measured all 3 diameters and counted the teeth.. when I use calculator I get 3 completely different gear pitches. Spur is 79T and 42mm Pinion is 20T and 11mm And the idle gear is 18T and 15mm All three come up different and not one match any common pitch I see ? Please help.. this is from a redcat piranha or cyclone xb10
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 5 жыл бұрын
Your spur gear is roughly double it's metric dimension. 79 teeth is roughly 2x 42mm. Your pinion # of teeth equal to 20 is roughly double the 11mm you measured. The idle gear at 18T and 15mm seems odd. It has less teeth but is larger in diameter nor shares the same relationship as the other gears? The calculator only works off of gear relationships. If something is changing it will not account for this.

hello I have a problem with my kyosho outrage. I have upgraded to hobbywing quickrun 1060 esc + cap pack due to esc running into limb mode. My motor is 12T or 14T team orion brushed. i have 15t pinion and 41t spur (both are the stock ones). I have upgraded to 2s lipo and 2.2" tyres front and back. Ambient temp is 36 Celsius. The problem is that despite the cap pack esc is getting into limb mode again and i googled that maybe it is thermal cut off due to overheating. I guess ambient temp plays a role but I wanted to ask if my gearing is right? due to bigger wheels and the motor change.Do they stress my motor and esc?

Pretty cool website! Dude, I have a doubt about how do I measure the ratio of a worm gear set. Could you help me with that? I can give you the number of teeth of the worm and the spur (worm wheel) together with both outer diameters.
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 5 жыл бұрын
Are you looking for the gear ratio of a worm gear set? The worm gear is considered as 1 tooth. If you have a 40 tooth spur gear mated to the worm gear, the ratio is 40:1. Don't forget to like the video and subscribe!
