Felt strip muffling- not just for jazz!
When it comes to bass drum muffling, it’s common to gravitate towards the use of pillows or heavy blankets inside the drum. Sometimes, this is a bit too much and sacrifices the tonal qualities of the drum while muffling the heads (especially with smaller bass drums). Felt strips are often the least expensive option to consider and you don’t have to worry about them shifting around in transit. In Ep. 2 of Season Two, we explore various combinations felt strip muffling between batter and reso.
Stick around until the end for a back-to-back comparison of all four muffling variations in the context of a groove.
