FREE EBOOKLET www.sweetnaturalliving.com Here's some tips on how to open a coconut with a machete. Even though there are many ways of doing it, here's my favorite technique at the moment!
Opening a coconut is a fairly straight forward affair. It does however depend a little bit on the type of coconut and it's maturity level. The technique in this video is best for quite young coconuts with the husk still on. It still works for mature coconuts but it might take some pulling with your hands in that case.
When using a machete, make sure it's sharp and that you keep your fingers well out of the way. Practice makes perfect, but don't get cocky or you might end up with loosing a finger!
Here in Costa Rica, we drink plenty of coconuts every day! Coconut water is the perfect way to hydrate and replenish electrolytes like sodium and potassium! On the raw vegan diet we thrive on fresh fruits and coconuts - all consumed raw in their natural state. The human body is that of a frugivore and raw food is the norm in nature.
As some of you might know, I've already made a video about this, but I don't care, the more the better!

always use a wooden stand for chopping because on the ground there is maybe rock that can damage your machete

Hey Mikkel and Mads. Very happy I found your channel, thanks for the great videos. Sleep and rest are definitely my weakest link. I would love to see a video about your evening routine, or a demonstration of an ideal evening routine in your opinion. Thanks Jay

Thank you for this great video! I think your technique was the safest of all the videos and your instructions were the clearest. If the coconuts are younger, are they a little easier to open? Mine were a little older and I had to work for my meal but it was still wholesome and yummy! May I ask what country you are in, in this video? I have lived in South Florida for over 20 years and, surprisingly, have NEVER seen anyone open their coconuts! They just leave them out for the yard waste collection people who compost everything. What a waste!

They are so good! Machete is nice, but it works fine with a smaller knife too! The brand called "kiwi" in Thailand has good quality knives....we usually get a small sized meat cleaver...

Sweet Natural Living I've been using the kiwi knives, I found a really good hostel near Khloeng Toei market so I have been fortunate enough not to need my own knife, but I think it would help sometimes if I did. But it would be so awesome to practice using a machete lol

Fruit Fun Fitness Don't worry about it! It's just a chemical reaction with the iron when it hits water! :)

If you wanted a more crafty way of eating the flesh, cut a small part of the husk off. Use it as a spoon/eating tool - rather than digging in with your hands.

so it just happens that I have a Coconut right next to me (well not litteraly) and I got my Machete, went to the balcony and went outside (my balcony is just at the right hight that I can jump down and climb up) and I did the same thing you did. There was no water and the meat tasted like shit... probably cause it wasn't a fresh and out of nature like urs... I bought it in a store :/ btw can you send me a Coconut over to Slovenia? thank you :P

Yeah that sounds like the very mature ones that are sold outside the tropics. It was probably rotten! Go out and look for asian supermarkets where you can find imported, young Thai coconuts! They should be allright!
