Nice They manufactured 2 types of hood latches, from 73 to 88, they have a notch, for a long Flathead screwdriver, it's listed in the old Chilton and Haynes in case of emergency When you pull it out, you'll see the slot on the stainless steel part, before In the 50s and 60s, it was common to just use the flat head to pop the hood

Ahh, is that just in the states? I'm in Canada, my neighbor has over 20 square bodies, I root thru them for Parts for my 81 and 88 squarebody. Hes got the old round eyes, 73 to 78, they have 2 types of hood latch that I noticed, I had to replace one in my 81, I grabbed one from his 74 3/4 ton, it matched my 81. I member my dad using a coat hanger when it was minus 35 cuzz it froze the hood latch back in the 80s, just like you did with the wire LOL Squarebodys for life brother!

81-91 were all the same hood latch with the inside cable being standard . 73-76 were outside latch only, and 77-80 had outside latch as standard equipment and inside cable was an option.

Had to do that on my 86, years ago. Someone told me about the handle from an old plastic bucket. It took me a while. Put a wire on it and hanging out for a while till I could order a new cable. 👍

Hello Sir - I have an old square body 1983 - i love this truck- i would like to put the 3 on the tree back- the owner before me put in a floor shifter, - i do not like it at all. is there a way you could take a few pics of the linkage going from column, to trans. - i have the linkage rods, i cannot get them to fit - both seem to be short in length - was there a crossbar in there someplace? like a z bar for automatic. if you can help me solve this 10-year-old mystery - i really want that back on column . it would be so nice - i would owe you one sir ;} Thanks

Nice one Chad. Unrelated question for you, im looking at doing a twin 2.5" exhaust on my 89 454 burb, is there any off the shelf systems that your aware of? Obviously here in Australia theres no options, was thinking the best way would be to build my own but getting something that requires a little less work would be preferable
