Just think that the 4.8 and 5.3 ls are based on the 305 engine. In fact all sb2"s are derived from the same concept of bringing the bore closer to the stroke creates more stability. Performance wise can potentially out perform the 350 and ultimately led to its demise into the ls era. Even the 5.7 ls engine wasn't a 350 4 inch bore motor. So technically the 305 can be modified into ls standards. A 350 can also but it will be less stable in which launched the 6.0 bringing the crank stroke up closer to the bore. All manufacturers pursued this route.
@SquarebodyStuff
@SquarebodyStuff 2 күн бұрын
It's funny you mention that. I've built a stroked 305, .060 over block and 3.75 stroke, and people would comment it has to small of a bore to make power. I then inform them that the bore and stroke are both just a bit bigger than the 5.3ls. They don't have much to say after that.
@jasonrogers9169
@jasonrogers9169 Күн бұрын
@@SquarebodyStuff hell yeah! 🤔 after explaining the principal I haven't had many come backs. I think it's because they didn't believe the ls had a really small bore until they looked it up. Yes the ls had aluminum cathedral port heads but why not 350 vortec with a piston rod combo and being derived from 350 then technically a 327 crank would really add to some mathematics being every 350 combo or stroker would retro fit and sit nicely next to the ls with a smile.

Awesome, I just got a set of sportsman 2s for free. I'm building a 305 and I thought I was going to be the first person to come up with this idea. because I already know there are some big block chevys like 396 and 402 that have a place carved out in the block for the valve. because the bores are too small to be a big block. Awesome, thanks for sharing this. If I can run these heads and rev to 8k I might not need the turbo, lol.

Do you know if there are Adapter plates to put a Chevy Carb (factory Chevy TBI) on to a Ford 351W? I got a propane work truck 1985 F-350 commercial dually flat deck I want to make it Dual fuel because Propane is nice and cheap, but it starts like trash in the cold weather and some towns don't sell Auto propane . I have some spare TBI around from my Square body Suburban and Love the GM TBI system. And TBI means I can shut it off easy and use propane when convenient. I'm planning on just sliding the TBI underneath the Propane mixer (propane carb) and wiring some shut offs switches. Are there GM to Ford or Ford to GM adapter plates?

I'm not 100% sure on that one. Depends on if it's a 4bbl or 2bbl intake.

@@SquarebodyStuff ok thanks... Propane has a 3 stage set up equivalent to a carb. It goes from the tank into a safety valve, then into a vaporizing converter, then into a mixing Diaphragm. The mixing Diaphragm is like a carburetor but it's alot simpler because everything is pure gas at the mixer. Here in Canada you can pickup all kinds of Propane trucks Chevy and Ford from the 70's 80's and 90's because they were easy conversions, and they were exempt from road taxes back then. Even today with Road taxes applied to the Propane is only $0.90 per liter ($2.49 US gal) vs Gasoline at $1.50 per liter ($4.14 US gal) and Diesel at $1.70 per liter ($4.70 US gal). But Propane isn't sold for Automobiles everywhere, and about 10-15 degrees below freezing and you need a Block heater or you can't start the truck.

@@SquarebodyStuff Well in my opinion you are doing more than just trying, you are doing it. I know that 1st is unsynchromised and it not easy to shift in to it. also a top loader shifts better than the side linkage stuff, with the exception of muncies. Apparently the 2-3-4 shifts are pretty good on that big boy mans transmission. Well it is a muncie, either way I'm kinda of surprised at how fast you shift and how good your truck is working with that transmission.

@@SquarebodyStuff I noticed that, and 3rd always gets the syncros messed up on a transmission that you have to go up and over to shift.
