This video brings back memories for me big time. You have to have great eyes for that distance you are working. Nice clean windows sure helps LOL. What controls your anti sway in the head? The machine that I operated had 4 small hydraulic motors with some kind of sensors on top of the head working small cables on each corner to control the sway and that was only a 100 feet in the air and you are working a much longer distance with no sway at all. I like the two lock lights letting you know both sides are locked or unlocked because they do catch sometimes. 50 containers an hour only if everything is working right! and that doesn't happen often LOL. It looks like a very nice machine to operate thanks for the great video.

+canvids1 Great Comment thanks! There is no anti sway on this crane, It is all up to the crane operator to get the swing out.

Fantastic video. Every day i drive past the Port of Oakland and I've always wondered how these things work. Can I ask a question -- how do you make sure the container is exactly lined up when you release it from the gantry? For example, when you take a container off the ship and put it on a truck, it seems that you would have to align it perfectly. If it was just a few inches or feet off, it wouldn't sit properly on the truck bed. The same when you put it on a ship. It seems difficult to be so exact. I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

+Joris Cleiren Yep, if that involves some procedures it would be nice ;) And maybe a 'peek' in the engineroom? Or how is that called in a gantry crane? :) Or attach the camera at the end of the boom so you see the trolley moving instead of the camera mounted on the trolley?

Thanks! Yes I had troubles with my neck and back. I've been to a physiotherapist for a few months and that helped me a lot. For getting the best possible ergonomic position. These cranes are 70ton cranes, they can handle it across the entire boom.

hi there joris cleiren i would like to operate one of those gantry one day but first i must tell you the truth i did an job interview at my port in jamaica and have since gone through all the necessary procedure of working at the port,but my problem is my medical x-ray shows that i have a narrowed disc in my left spine ,that was in 2010,however a new company from Europe took over the entire port what do you think i should give it another try?
@Container_World
@Container_World 7 жыл бұрын
+richard nelson You should give it a try! You can always take a step back. I also have a really weak back and neck (genetic)but I love the job to much so I've been to a psychoterapist to get the best ergonomic position possible and trying to avoid long working in the same position.

Can you give a rundown of how your handles work? Is the side to side motion you do on your hoist your lock and unlock? If it is, that's pretty cool. Do you have a separate handle for your gantry?
@Container_World
@Container_World 8 жыл бұрын
+Art19 yes the right joystick side motion is to (un)lock. What do you mean with separate handle?
@workitover
@workitover 8 жыл бұрын
How do you gantry your crane? On our cranes in Seattle our hoist handle serves as our gantry or we have a separate handle to gantry up and down the dock. I guess I should call handles joysticks.

How do you know where to put the containers on the ship? I noticed some go inside the ship some go other places. How do you know which boxes go where?
@Container_World
@Container_World 4 жыл бұрын
Well noticed! Every container has it's position, pre planned by our vessel planners. Check my reach stacker video to see our computer system. They Bring every container in a certain order. When I pick-up the container, our checker tells me the correct position on the ship by radio communication. Feel free to ask more!

How do you know where each container has to go?
@josephquattrocchi5620

On the ground, a team member diligently tracks the location. Communication between the ground, crane operator, and team members in the yard waiting to receive the container is continuous. The ship has a report breaking down where the container (all are numbered) is located and any safety hazard it may pose. The team member enters the container details into a computer registry, reviews the plan for the vessel, and based on the container, a stack is selected. Some are placed back on the ship later after the selected containers are moved out. Others are stacked in the yard appropriately to be accessed by the trucking community.
