My favorite story of one of his duels was when he had to meet a man on an island. The time of the duel was around noon, and he showed up around sunset. Musashi upset the man so much, that as the boat man docked to shore. The opponent, in such rage, took his sword from the sheath, which he threw to the wind. Then, ran to Musashi, as Musashi had only one foot on land, began his attacks. Musashi, drew his katana and cut the opponent down. The boat man, left in awe asked, "How did you do that?" Musashi replied, "I knew the deal was mine when I saw him throw his sheath away. The sheath is the place of peace for the sword. Once I saw him throw away the place of peace, I knew the duel was mine."

I remember, inviting the warrior Musashi to my home. He told me how great of a swordsman i was. We drew our swords then fought and fought until we got to the bedroom. He threw away his sheath. I threw away mines. Then he threw away his armor. And i too. And at that moment. I knew the duel was mine. And our swords clashed into one another mine pierced through his lips and his mine. Until our hearts became one.

He fought Sasaki Kojirō who was known for using an extra long sword. Musashi carved an oar into a bokken durring the boatride over that was even longer the Kojiro's sword giving him the range advantage against an unknowing Kojiro and struck him in the head killing him.

This is the answer, our WANTS and NEEDS are the only reason we have emotions, so in order to be happy and be considered “smart” you have to think about what you want, so ALWAYS KNOW the knowledge is there, but we must LEARN to UNDERSTAND what we want, so NEVER stop learning because persistence is key, and just because you’ve learned something doesn’t mean you understand it. This is the key for understanding ALL beings with emotions, so always listen, and ALWAYS live in the MOMENT as if it were nothing but a blank canvas, and NEVER implement TIME into your personal life, as you WILL be stressed and WILL focus on the past resulting in depression, or the future resulting in anxiety. Also, your very WILL is stronger when you know, what you want and need it’s important to remember to focus energy into that but not ALL of your energy as you need to remember yourself and others because we all have wants and needs.

The advice about living in the moment without letting time dictate our lives is something I've been trying to incorporate. It's a challenge, but your words serve as a reminder to focus on the present, avoiding unnecessary stress about the past or future. Balancing our will with consideration for ourselves and others is indeed crucial. Thanks for sharing these insights

Just finished watching this insightful exploration into Miyamoto Musashi's strategies, and I'm struck by the timeless relevance of his teachings. The video does a great job highlighting how Musashi's life, filled with challenges, shaped not just his swordsmanship but also his approach to life's myriad challenges. The breakdown of "Goin no show" and its five elemental rings adds a fascinating layer to Musashi's philosophy. I found the analogies to Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and the Void quite intriguing as they offer a holistic perspective beyond the battlefield. But this the emphasis on Musashi's mental approach to combat is something I hadn't considered deeply before which added by... the "no sword" strategy, focusing on psychological warfare and projecting invincibility, makes me wonder how applicable these principles are beyond the martial arts context. Have any viewers tried implementing these strategies in their daily lives or professions? I would like to know more on the segment on Nan Ichi Ru and Musashi's innovation in two-sword combat is captivating, if anyone can shed light or share their perspective. Got me thinking about instances in life when breaking away from tradition or embracing change led to unexpected advantages.

Examining that headline, it becomes evident to me that individuals often invest too heavily in the pursuit of undermining others and attempting to outwit them, or simply adopting a negative attitude. In all honesty, living a virtuous life, maintaining your own path, and sharing laughter with the right companions can lead to a tranquil existence without the need to outsmart anyone. Why bother spending time attempting to appear clever?

Half of this video was praise without substance. Most of it was repeating the same things over and over. It lightly touched on the basic premise of Miyamoto Musashi's work, gave us a slight glimpse into his mind and offered a few nuggets of wisdom to take with you. All in all, this video does not fulfill the promise it's title suggests, as it's not a deep dive in any respects. "Why Miyamoto Is Celebrated" is perhaps a more befitting title to this video. It mentions things. It does not explain or dissect them. Every time I thought it was going to go into the intricacies of strategic philosophy it did not. Namely, the time he brought up the importance of presence and reputation, and actually went into how Miyamoto employed this during his praises of psychological warfare, and the time he brought up the criticisms against Miyamoto's work. But it is only a 16 minute video. I don't know what I expected. If anyone is aware of deep dives of Miyamoto's strategic philosophy that are more informative than fluff, please share it. I went into this video hoping it might help me write a strategic character in a story better than I already know I can if that helps. But I'm equally as interested in learning and shaping my own philosophy, so it needn't be strictly catered to that purpose.

00:00:00 In this section of the video, the speaker delves into the life and wisdom of Miyamoto Musashi, a legendary swordsman and philosopher from Japan. Musashi's early years were marked by adversity, with each dawn bringing new challenges that he had to overcome. It was in this crucible of hardships that the seeds of his strategic genius were sown, and he refined his approach to both swordsmanship and life's challenges. Musashi transformed obstacles into opportunities, always seeking the edge that would set him apart, and his relentless pursuit of mastery made him not just a skilled swordsman but also a tactician of life. 00:05:00 In this section, the transcript excerpt discusses the concept of outsmarting challenges, regardless of whether they be in combat or daily life, through a strategic mindset. This is achieved by understanding the complexities of life and the importance of amazingly diverse elements such as physical technique and metaphysical philosophy. Each element, represented by a book in Miyamoto Musashi's magnum opus, illuminates a different facet of strategy and life, such as the importance of grounding oneself in core values and understanding the environment in which we operate, or the significance of adaptability and responsiveness in the face of changing circumstances. Ultimately, Musashi's insights and recommendations provide a holistic roadmap for strategic thinking, emphasizing balance between varied principles and techniques. 00:10:00 In this section of the video, the speaker discusses the Nan Ichiru technique, a two-sword fighting method developed by Miyamoto Musashi. The method stands out from traditional Samurai combat as a calculated reinvention of combat dynamics, focusing on synchronization of movements, turning defense into offense, and wielding two swords in harmony. The Nan Ichiru technique is not just about physical combat, but also epitomizes Musashi's philosophy of always being one step ahead of his opponents and finding openings to take advantage of their weaknesses. The technique provides a lesson in adaptability, urging us to break free from convention and constantly reinvent our strategies in response to a constantly shifting environment. The fluidity and strategy taught by Musashi remains relevant in modern-day business, personal endeavors, and other unforeseen challenges. 00:15:00 In this section, the speaker concludes their exploration of Miyamoto Musashi's strategic genius and emphasizes the invaluable lessons that can be learned from his philosophy. They highlight the importance of keen observation, adaptability, and strategic foresight, arguing that these principles are just as applicable today in boardrooms as they were on ancient battlefields. The speaker encourages viewers to cultivate their strategies, hone their perceptions, and embrace a mindset of endless growth, reminding them of the power of a sharpened mind.
