I too think of you as my painting instructor Professor Davies (😉). I believe I’ve watched all your long videos now, & most the short & sped up ones on KZfaq. Can’t recall which one, but I remember you mentioning that it benefits you as a KZfaq podcaster, if people leave comments. As such I always try to leave one. Today I’m listening to this tutorial of yours while painting.. a rather large rock as it happens. I was a research biologist, until I became disabled by a rather odd & uncommon illness in 2015. At any rate, it prohibits me from doing much of anything physical, including talking out loud very often, as those activities increase my symptoms. Being stuck inside w/ nothing to do, after leading a very active & busy life, drove me a bit mad, as I’m only 52. A year ago, my close friend died from Lupus, & I was very sad. However, an older friend of mine on the west coast (I’m in the Northeast 🇺🇸) painted fun little rocks, & suggested I try it. It’d give me something to do that was creative. I knew zero about painting. I decided to try. It wouldn’t cost much to try it out, & rocks are free. Being on a small fixed income, I decided to give it a go. Bought a decent set of acrylics, & some cheap brushes. Then I set to watching hours & hours of KZfaq tutorials. And then I painted & I painted & I painted. Practice practice practice. Learn something new, practice that. I found out what I really wanted to do was paint landscapes. Landscapes with depth, & dimensionality. I missed my hiking days & being out in the mountains. Nothing made me happier than being out in forests, etc. I found that when I painted landscapes, it helped immensely. I just.. felt better inside. To my surprise, people were asking to buy my rock paintings. My first one sold for $150. That was fantastic bc it let me buy more supplies, including canvases bc I really wanted to see what it was like to 🎨 on them (turns out canvases are so much easier, especially bc they’re flat). The large rock I’m 🎨 now is complicated bc of its shape & the fact that I’m attempting a 3-sided painting on it. I do indeed think of the rocks I paint as uneven, oddly shaped canvases w/ no give, lol. Lastly I wanted to say that, I do indeed think of Bob Ross when I watch/listen to you, but not bc your styles are alike. Bob Ross primary goal was never to become a professional artist per se. It was to teach others that they could paint too, & get the same kind of joy out of it. And he was a very good teacher for people who’d never picked up a brush. He never sold any of his paintings. He’d donate them for fundraising, or give them away, but he wouldn’t sell them. He was different than you in that way bc teaching was always his primary goal. In my opinion, the way you are alike is in you’re kind, very positive & supportive, often amusing demeanor, w/ a bit of no-nonsense thrown in, & your true interest in teaching your viewers/subscribers how to do what you do. When’s genuinely rare is an artist of your caliber, who’s willing to put out free podcasts that teach step by step, from beginning to end. I can say this bc I now know at least enough to recognize just how good an artist you truly are. You are unique in your style & your work is captivating. Technically it’s more advanced than what Bob taught, & I’m not knocking Bob, bc that wasn’t his goal. I learned a tremendous amount from him. I wish I could come to France to take your lessons in person, but I’m unable. I truly wish I could be a patron, but I’m just barely managing at the moment. I am starting to get commissions now, so that could all change🤞😉. The only way I can thank you is to subscribe, like, share your videos, study your episodes, & tell you why it means so much to me. Primarily, I paint for myself in the way I want. I do this bc it makes me feel like I’m alive again. It makes me happy to have something I can create out of my imagination. It’s funny actually bc, while I truly love science & enjoyed much of my research, I’ve never enjoyed anything so much as I do painting, except perhaps hiking w/ my 🐕. This must be what it feels like to have a job you love. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. What you’re doing, what you’re sharing means more than you know to some of your viewers. And this novella style comment will likely be my last for awhile. I shall keep my comments shorter in the future😉.

Hey Stuart, I'm a nurse and first responder in the USA. I sent a package to Canada back in July and it hasn't made it yet. I understand your frustration. We are apparently quarantined. Funny how "the wall" idea backfired and turned out to be a virus that keeps US citizens inside, instead of keeping others out. The USPS has made it clear to me that limited cargo and at least 2 to 4 weeks is required for quarantine along with disinfectant. I'm also an artist and send items to and fro. I had a painting out which was buckled and destroyed by a "liquid" substance during shipping. Be cautious and make sure all open areas are sealed tight. "Stuff" coming IN to America is getting here relatively quickly. "Stuff" shipping OUT is delayed by 6 to 8 weeks according to the Post Master.

Hi Stuart, I just wanted tell you I love your paintings and instruction, I watched hours of your videos' and did a painting in your style. I did not do a follow along just used your technique, but using acrylics not oils. You are absolutely correct that acrylic is not easy to use when doing this style of painting. My painting turned out well though after a lot of adjustments, and I really like it. The painting reminds me of when I lived in west Texas, and spent many days and nights in the desert. I call it "A Storm Comin' In". Thank You , Sir

You are such a talented and inspiring artist. Your presentations are better than most on KZfaq. Even though I love color and I am so drawn to all of your paintings. I watch all of them and feel you take me off into imaginary journeys. Your conversation while you paint make me feel as though I am there with you. I hope you stay well during this pandemic. On one of your videos I heard you describe overwhelming tiredness. My husband had COVID in Dec 2020 and that was his main symptom aside from loss of smell and taste.
