Hi there, Liron here!
Today we'll paint against the light 😁
One of the characteristics of this is UNIFIED SHAPES.
And the details within those shapes becoming more vague.

Appreciate how you keep the reference photo up so we can really see and understand your painting decisions. Your technique is inspiring, and your commentary is so clear and helpful. Thank you!

Another great lesson, Liron. “Connect shapes”…I need to repeat that as a mantra while I paint! 👏

The most important secret in making a great watercolor painting is to make it of Venice.

I have been procrastinating (for some unknown reason) to paint this loosely. I want to! Honestly I think I’m afraid people will think I didn’t spend enough time on the painting so it can’t be good. People don’t u der stand how challenging this type of watercolor is! They think details and likeness are what’s important. Now you want to know.. why am I not painting for myself and worrying about what others think? I don’t know!! Ugh, why? I wish I could get over this hurdle. If anyone has a way to help me past this, I’m open to any ideas! Loved the video! Thanks again, Liron.

Haha yeah this issue plagues many unfortunately... I honestly think you should shut yourself in a room and paint a painting with the purpose of NEVER showing it to anyone. See what happens! 😁

I’ve been trying to 'let go ' for ages Liron, and you’re so loose and sure of yourself it makes me both inspired and frustrated. Maybe I just don’t practice enough. One thing I’ve noticed is that you d NOT REPLICATE the colours of a reference - another obsession some of us have. So... small size paper, large brush and CONNECT shapes. I’ve heard it so many times but not enough times. 😄😄 Thanks Liron.

Something that empowered me a little on this subject...You don't have to show anyone else what you paint.

What kind of opaque paint you are using, Liron? What mediums or techniques do u prefer for these final highlights? (A video on those techniques would be super helpful 🙏🏼💗 I’m finishing a piece atm, but am kinda stuck on how to get those fine highlight details) I’m just beginning with watercolour and you are SUCH a huge help and inspiration so thankyou ☺️ you’ve taught me so much! keep up the amazing work!

My favorite is Jaune Brilliant by ShinHan PWC! 😁 It’s a warm, slightly peachy opaque white (: Great for using straight out of the tube. Sometimes I’ll also use designer’s gouache white (mine is Winsor & Newton). Good luck, keep painting 😁💪

Wonderful LiRon! I knew you wouldn’t do cliche Venice. My only criticism would be the opaque paint, especially the window arches; it just seems a little too much, although it truly gives a 3D effect…

Haha yeah it may be too much for some, but I really wanted to try this for a while (wet in wet with opaque paint), and this was the perfect opportunity!

From Ohio: Are you headed out for a walk in the rain or did you just return? Your hoodie doesn't look too wet but I'm guessing this is a scene that you observed while you were out walking or jogging. Nice painting!

I filmed this process separated from the narration video 😁 I took this photo in Venice a few weeks ago, then painted, and a few days later narrated haha. My production process can span a few days / weeks easy, but I work on multiple vids simultaneously. I just had the hoodie on because I felt like it 😛

I'm still not 100% sure what you mean by "against the light." Are you referring to the backlit reference photo or a technique you use during painting?
@charnelljones8149
@charnelljones8149 Жыл бұрын
I took it as painting in a way that preserves the light or that backlit effect you mentioned.
@LironYan
@LironYan Жыл бұрын
Both - The scene itself is backlit (: And this usually ends up in large, slightly vague unified shapes. So when the scene is against the light (aka the sun is BEHIND your subject or in front of you), it can call for a specific type of process. Big washes, wet in wet, fewer tangible details. Hope that makes sense!

Amazing work 🤩 but I think it is a bit difficult to follow which colours you mix because almost all looks similar in your palette 😅

Looks unfinished, much more could be added but it served its purpose to show technique. The water and pavement look great however and they stand out because of the way everything around looks
