How to Paint Ghosts

In this miniature painting tutorial, I'll show you how to paint some cool looking ghosts for your tabletop games. These spectral walkers in particular are from No Rest for the Wicked, an expansion for Zombicide: Black Plague and Green Horde (not sponsored or anything, just love the game), but you could just as easily apply these techniques to your Nighthaunts or anything you want to turn into a ghost. To top off the spookiness, I walk you through how I created the misty fog effect for the base.

Nice method. I don't think I do my ghosts exactly like you are, but I love the idea of using different subtle pale shades to break up the different materials of the model without being -too- different.

Digging the channel so far. I may just apply the first step you did for the hair here when trying to paint black hair. Looks good!

I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel, that means a lot :) As far as the hair... it was a bit of an experiment for me, and I wasn’t 100% happy with it, but it’s all good. I’m learning like everyone else :D

New sub. Great work it's a gorgeous piece. As a critique, you are zoomed so far in that there is some trouble with staying in frame. Other than that your instructions were clear and the fog effect was something I had been looking for. Thanks for sharing.

Appreciate the critique and kind words :) Good news about the zoom is I just got a new camera this last week which should help with all the focus and framing issues. I know it has been a problem I’ve been trying to fix. Glad I was able to help you out with the fog :) Thanks for watching! :)

I wonder if spraying it with clear-cote matt finish would keep it in place for longer?

Yeah, not sure on that. Thought about it at the time, but was worried about screwing it up by getting it all clumpy which would kind of ruin the effect, I think. Never did test it though. Let me know if you do!

Love the Fog effect. For durability, maybe a fine dusting with a Hairspray?

Yeah, I tried using hairspray as a test, and didn’t really like how it looked. Came out all stringy and not like fog, hah. Could be lack of skill as well, haha.

@@brainpinker282 - Haven’t tried anything new recently but I can tell you the cotton has held up a year later as long as you’re careful handling the base.
