How to Paint Log Cabins

Here are my tips and techniques for painting cabins and cottages as I take you through this log cabin I'm painting. By the end of this video, you should have a better understanding of where to start, how to layer the colors, and how to add the finishing details.

Acrylics used:
Titanium White: shrsl.com/1qfuw
Cad Yellow: shrsl.com/1qfvf

Brushes used:

COLOR MIXTURES -
The main color of the cabin was dark gray with a touch of reddish orange in it.
The rocks on the chimney was different levels of gray with a bit of red and a bit of orange at times for the lighter ones.
The windows were cad yellow and red, with a touch of gray to dull it down for the darker areas. As I went darker, I added more red.
That's it, black, white, red, orange, and a hint of yellow in the windows.

Takes me back to the days i lived in a one room log cabin on Hebgen Lake,Mt. for twelve years where i was a wildlife photographer. I am now learning how to paint. I want to paint my cabin from those days. Your lessons are very helpful. Thank you for the great instruction and inspiration. I hope one day to run into you in our "treasure" of a state.

I am wanting to move from doing just portraits and expand on different subjects like landscapes and scenes like this, you make it look so exciting. Very nice. The realism of the cabin is greatly aided by its placement and intensity. It is nestled into the trees as if it’s been there for many years. The colours are somewhat muted. Again, this matches the environment. Details are very important for realism as is placement and intensity.

Good Morning Muse!, This video came right in time to inspiere me because i have a lot of houses today to go;) You explained it well, but I could guess some guys who looking this have no Idea about perspective here. Maybe, just maybe explaining some more about? I know it a complex topic but I have the feeling that the mesuring is hard to understand for a beginners ...aside that I see that this will be again a really great work. You made my day by just looking a these great Landscape. It reminds me to Constable meet Redlin somehow. Love your stuff so much!
