Learn how to paint with water-soluble oil pastels!
I very much enjoy participating in the Sennelier Monday Live art tutorials. Hosted by artist Yves-Marie Salanson, I never fail to take away something beneficial. As a teacher, I love to keep learning, and I think it's invaluable to learn from a variety of instructors. I'll have a link for you below re: how to participate in these Monday Live events.
I really enjoy learning from Monsieur Salanson, and these weekly lessons give me a few minutes of a guilty pleasure, which is trying to understand the spoken French language. I took 7 years of lessons in High School and College - mais il y a beaucoups d'ans!
Mungyo Gallery Water-Soluble Oil Pastels are a student-grade product and as such, do not carry lightfastness ratings. If you are using them solely in a sketchbook, as I have in this video, they will serve you well.

My first experience with oil pastels and I have them in my Amazon cart to buy when I finish your video. I love what you did and I'm not trying to be rude but I would get more out of a tutorial if it wasn't so fast so I can actually see what you are doing. I like video speed up but this speed is making me feel like I'm on drugs, sorry but this is just how I feel. I love the painting.

@artonthecreek

Hi Linda! Thank you for watching & commenting😊 The Mungyo water-soluble oil pastels are student-grade, whereas the Neocolors are professional-grade. I tend to reach for the Neocolors more because they are more richly pigmented. The Neocolors are a wax-based medium, so they do act a bit differently than these. I’ve got a playlist here that includes my thoughts on the Neocolor Is and IIs; I hope this helps you decide: Caran d'Ache Art Supplies kzfaq.info/sun/PLR7d_Il9GxrThsbnRv_GECK7g3dVMpugK

Delightful painting, I feel sad about it being in a sketchbook, it should be seen! Maybe you will change your mind and frame it at some point, really hope so. My hands are itching now though... 😂 Will ask someone to hide my wallet, or the unthinkable will happen and I will get those pastels ! Very inspiring tutorial, it looks approachable and not too difficult to do, a gold mine for someone like me who never had dealt with pastels. Thank you!

@@artonthecreek Ooooooo..... tempting.... very tempting... Who am I kidding, we all know I am going to buy them 😂 and join the club! I've got some non soluble oil pastels, didn't have much success with them, so I quietly put them aside and there they are... Have you ever tried those? Maybe you 'll have some tips for me, it feels very wrong when the art supplies just stay there, not used. I still need to explore your videos, it is possible that you already have something like that,but I am very freshly subscribed to your channel and didn't have time yet to go through all of them. Very happy to be able to see Venice painting again ! Here's to many more inspiring paintings!🥂

Yes! The only wasted money for art supplies is spent on those supplies that stay in a drawer, unused! 💔 I do have 2 more videos demonstrating Neocolor IIs. Thanks Chris! Are you using soft (chalk) pastels or oil pastels? The paper I used on this video is lovely-it’s Sennelier Pastel Card. For a much more approachable alternative and my favorite practice paper, I do have 2 more pastel videos up. In those I use Caran d’Ache Neocolor IIs. The methods are by in large the same for any pastels…the water solubility makes blending very simple! Here are those videos: Mandarin Orange Slices: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7NyjaWe2963go0.html Crocus in Snow: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sN5nqbB1q-C6qmw.html In both of those videos I have some really valuable tips & a link to the quality affordable paper I like. I will be taking more dives into oil & soft pastels, as well as Pan Pastels after World Watercolor Month is over. Until then, there are brilliant Pastel artists on KZfaq-look around and see who’s style you like!

Hi, I am really new beginner. I don't understand how these are different from using watercolors
@artonthecreek
@artonthecreek 6 ай бұрын
No worries-I can see how some of the mediums might be confusing. Professional watercolor is a combination of pigment, gum Arabic & sometimes honey. Student-grade watercolors add a higher percentage of binders or fillers, which results in a lower cost but also paint that isn’t as crisp, clear, or transparent. These are student-grade water-soluble oil pastels. Although they can be used “like watercolor” in that they can be blended out with water, they are an oil-based medium. I hope that helps🤠 I know you didn’t ask; I have a series of beginner watercolor lessons that might interest you, and I will add to this list in 2024: kzfaq.info/sun/PLR7d_Il9GxrTWjSmq6RL8yPypkwq-y7_q&si=_ju30_lP9kt8_Yh_
