Casting and reloading is the least expensive and most rewarding shooting you can do, but lubricating cast bullets can be a pain. Here is how I do mine for black powder cartridges.

That's great! I built one from a kit with my Dad in 1976 for the countries bicentennial. Good memories!

Really interesting! I had a friend that use to reload bullets for me, and he cast some. Just for the 30-30 and 38 Special. They worked fine but were hard. Was just wad cutters for the 38 but were fun to shoot. I reload my own now but have never done cast . Thanks for sharing Brother. You do a lot of interesting things!

Thank you. Casting isn't hard, but it is time consuming. You end up throwing a lot of them back into the melting pot because of imperfections. Most people seem to want hard lead for bullets. I don't really understand why. Hard lead can be loaded "Hotter" without as much lead build up, but they don't expand. Soft lead, shot slower with a little lighter load, still penetrates well, expands, and won't lead the barrel either. For most hunting, cast bullets work great.

I never seen that done before. THANKS.

Thank you. For most cartridges, there's no need to size the bullets as long as the mold used is the right size.

Most folks use a Lube-sizer press, but this works pretty well also. Hard lead and higher velocity, they probably should be sized. Black powder or light smokeless loads, this works fine.

I've never made my own, so I hadn't ever given it much thought. It looks easy enough doing it that way though. Every time I see Crisco I just about puke. When I was a kid, I opened it up and thought it was Cool Whip. I took a big scoop and put it in my mouth. It lubricated my mouth for a long time, so I can vouch for it for this purpose haha!

Great vid Muskrat. I powder coat or tumble lube. I’ve heard that wax toilet seals make good lube and they’re cheap👍🏻
@MuskratOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the powder coating. I've been seeing more and more about it though, in fact one of your videos I think. You sent some to Leverguns 50 too didn't you? They look like they work well. Kind of strange looking since they are colored, but that doesn't matter if they work!!
@georgiaboy44104 жыл бұрын
Muskrat Outdoors yeah, you can pc them gray to look like lead if you want. Sometimes it helps to get a bullet up to size to fit your bore. And I’ve found out I can push em faster without a gas check with no leading. Those colors do look odd when your used to just lead bullets lol.👍🏻

Hi. Interesting. I've been saving my .308 cases, got myself a 3 stage press dies and most bits. Maybe 1 day I'll get around to giving it ago. Bullets are pretty dam expensive here in England. How's the bees doing? I remember you lost some but can't remember how many you have?
@MuskratOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
If you shoot much at all, you really should reload. You can reload them for about half the cost. A three stage press really speeds it up too. Mine are just single, so each step needs to be done separately. Pretty slow comparably. We lost two hives this Spring. Those two had no honey last Fall, but were still alive this Spring. We had been feeding them and they looked like they might make it, but as soon as the weather started to warm up, other bees robbed them and killed them off. We are down to just one hive left, but they are doing really well.....so far!

I wonder, when you do bullets casting, you take pure lead or antimony alloy.
@MuskratOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I just use scrap lead, but it probably has an alloy of some sort in it. A friend adds antimony to his, but he likes harder lead than I do.
