If you can crack your fitness before you start basic training you will find it so much easier. That’s the best advice I could give you.

How often do they have you running in basic, it's hard to find answers about the fitness side of training. As I'm working towards being able to run most days without getting shin splints. I do have the fitness down but currently cant run more than once every other day or two, so i'm hesitant to apply as of now

This really helps!! I would like to be in the RAF band when I am older! When I was little I used to say to my dad (who was in the army) that I wanted to be in the military when the time comes and now 8 years later (I'm 14) I have made my decision to be in the RAF!!! I'm going to use this information to make myself stronger! :) Edit: 16 almost 17 now. I have not joined the RAF, but I am joining the British Army! I have my assessment centre in 9 days. Hopefully I get in as a musician, although I haven't heard about an audition at all. I will update after I go through the assessment centre. Update: I'm starting British Army Basic Training in September at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate. I'll be training there for 5 months, then I'll go to Portsmouth for my phase 2 training as a musician! Update: I started phase 2 last week, currently its been the best fuckin fun I've had in a long time. Phase 1 was shite, but the bonds you make with the people are incredible. I urge anyone to join the British Army! Its been amazing so far, and im less than a year in!

@RJW98
@RJW98 5 жыл бұрын
@@georgeplummer4553 This is an irrelevant argument as the scenario you're giving is for combat roles (I.E infantry, gunners), which many militaries don't allow women into. The ones that do (I know the British Army is letting women into combat roles now) make sure that women are able to get up to men's standards. So I still don't see a problem with women not meeting men's standards in other roles, such as Engineering or the Medical side of things.
@RJW98
@RJW98 5 жыл бұрын
@@georgeplummer4553 I never said I disagreed, you just assumed I did. For combat roles, yes, women should meet the same standards, which some are. For less pysical roles, I don't see what the problem is having lower standards as you don't need to be amazingly fit. So I don't see what you're arguing against here...

@@RJW98 But the tests are still there for a reason. Is it really fair that a man who scores better than a female still fails when she passes purely because he has a penis? If a man is better qualified and suitable then they should be prioritised over ticking some diversity-equality boxes.
@RJW98
@RJW98 5 жыл бұрын
@@finnmartin281 And the difference in fitness standards is there for a reason. And yes it's fair, because that penis gives him the testosterone, and therefore strength, needed to pass physical tests at a higher fitness rate. If a woman wants to pass at a man's level, she'd have to work twice as hard as her male counterpart, so how is that fair? If a man can't do 20 pushups then quite frankly he should look into a different career choice. Same if a woman can't do 10. I just find it amazing how you people are getting so upset over 10 pushups...

@@finnmartin281 agree 100% fitness standards should be the same across the board. It's 2019 the RAF need to catch up with equality. I hope women joining the military will demand to do the same test as their male counterparts as 10 half reps is not a test, and insulting to a proud strong woman I'm sure. I have trained women to go from 0 to 10 full press ups in a couple of weeks following a simple progressive approach. Women are also generally lighter these tests are bodyweight so relative strength is tested. Good luck to anyone joining - let's raise these standards!

As a female, I completely agree that women should be allowed to join all roles of all services IF they can meet the same fitness requirements as men. I don't understand the logic of making it easier in the name of "equality" an I'm sure plenty of women would be able to match the men in their test.
@packersfanforlife7903
@packersfanforlife7903 6 ай бұрын
Most struggle to meet the men's pass requirement, a pass for female is 7.2 for the youngest age group and only goes down from there. A pass for the men is minimum 9.10 and that goes down over time. However there are some women who can and are fitter than some of the men just not most of them. However that is mainly down to biological reasons. Really fit women can be better than most guys in the Military however.

Hey bud. I used to be in the army and have applied for the RAF due to needing a change of pace. At the beginning of my training I was running the Mile and a Half(back on the old PFT test) in 13:24, and barely able to do push-ups or situps. Within half a year I was able to knock my run time to 8:34 and able to do a lot more push-ups and sit-ups than I thought I could ever do. The good thing is that pre-training is required in part, you do get a lot fitter when your in, in part to PT sessions and Healthier food. Honestly, as long as you put your mind to it, get your head down and graft you will start noticing results, however big or small the results are a step in the right direction. I wish you the best on your future, and fingers crossed you find your way 😊

In fairness, if you only just about pass the army one you’re really gonna struggle once training starts. There’s a lot more fitness involved than in RAF training. So maybe they want people already at a good level because they don’t spend as much effort building it up? This is pure conjecture.

my biggest fear / issue is the pushups. i can barely do 5 and its stressing me out, i've got my aptitude test on the 9th of this month, i know i've got plenty of time to work on pushups as the fitness test wont be for a few months yet but i'm struggling quite a bit. has anyone got any tips on how i can work on that aspect?
@Andy-ur8np
@Andy-ur8np 5 жыл бұрын
Just focus on doing 1 extra push-up every time. I did push ups until my arms just couldn't move anymore, then I'd move onto sit ups. Get a PT if you have the cash, to work on general fitness. Otherwise I wouldn't panic too much, you can always talk to your recruiter if you don't feel your capable of doing the fitness and need to delay it. Even if you do fail, you will likely get another chance prove yourself.

What does the score for the Multi Stage Fitness Test Correlate to? Mine says 7.02. What does that mean?
@packersfanforlife7903
@packersfanforlife7903 6 ай бұрын
It means you have to run to level 7.2 on the bleep test to get a basic pass. So it starts at level 1 and goes up each minute with the beats progressively getting fast within that minute. 7.2 is about just under 8 minutes running. You'll have to also perform the push ups and sit ups. If you fail one area, you still have to do all the other areas. So if you failed the run they'd still expect you to do the push ups and sit ups regardless, pointless really if you've already failed the run as the run is the hardest but tbh
