This is really neat. I had this company do some work for me not long ago and it's interesting to think this is what they were doing, even if it's just a partial clip. I was really satisfied with the job they did. Keep up the good work.

This is a outstanding, reputable company that has been around for almost 100 years. They handle all my fire sprinkler, fire alarm and security systems and they always do what they say they will do at fair prices.

We actually submerge our FE in a small tank of water just to ensure that there is no leaks on the valve and and the neck. We then dry out the FE prior re-installing the hose assembly. Just another precaution before sending back the unit for duty....

That's really old school. Get some Leak Detector solution. It contains some soap that will find leaks quickly.

@@tonygirard3307 Dipping can't miss and washes any dust off the extinguisher, a cosmetic bonus for those who care.. Leak detector works too but is a bit more fiddly and best for manifolds etc. (I service and rebuild my personal welding gas equipment per factory tech data as it's so simple and easy to do, and worked on aircraft GOX and LOX systems in the USAF so I prefer overkill when it comes to safety.) BTW a good field expedient leak detector solution is Ivory Soap (specifically Ivory, unscented original) and water which many welding equipment companies including Linde specified for checking oxygen, acetylene and other industrial gases.

Only two complaints; not a fan of lubricating the bottom part of the valve stem, and I find it's easier to twist the pull pin to break the seal instead of pulling, if its sealed with the pull pin pointed up you can just push it forward easy.

Any idea if an extinguisher is mounted on a truck/forklift/vehicle etc., does it need a tear down annually? I’m told by my boss that it does but I can’t find that info anywhere, I’ve tried looking at CalFire, DOT, OSHA but I can’t find it. I’m in Los Angeles, CA.

Title 10 says “ Any fire extinguisher stored on or in a vehicle must be hydro tested every 5 years.” If it hasnt been 5years it doesnt need a tear down just an annual maintenance.

A tear down is every 6 years for stored pressure cylinders. Vehicles are 5.

What about a Pressure Test ?
@alvaalgood9393
@alvaalgood9393 8 жыл бұрын
+goldwingman1500 = Pressure [hydrostatic] test is not part of the 6 yr internal maintenance. It is done based on the type of metal the extinguisher is made of. Most dry chemical extinguishers and hydro tested every 12 years.

+Alva [Al] Good G,Day i refilled these for 35years in Australia we do a pressure Test every Six Years the laws change in other countrys plus i was a fireman for about 15 years i refilled ABE dry powder BE dry powder Monex Powder BCF CO2 AFFF Foan ,Air Water ,Wet Chemical fat fire,s Recharge after use refill and i sent away for pressure test every Six Years As per ASA Regulation Australia .Chubb, Quell, Wormald ,now we are getting alot of cheaper make from china and other places .i carry a BCF in my bike and car ,As this powder is corrosive over time it took all the hammer tone pain off my air compressor but still works .used for cleaning only .

+goldwingman1500 Pal in the US as per NFPA standards 6 year cylinder maintenance is required, well every 6 years. A hydrostat is required every 12 years for dry chemical, halon, and cartridge operated extinguishers. 5 years for foam, carbon dioxide, wetting agent, and loaded stream. It is completely irrelevant that you serviced for 35 years because in Australia the guidelines are completely different.Thank you.

+Dave Yes i know every Country is never the same there has been some stupid people showing how to make a flame thrower i was trying to tell these people dont play with these old fire gear as Halon is now banned in Australia and we have colour coding and every so called Business shops so on car work shops must be by law serviced every six months by a service agent after i left the NSW Fire Brigade i started refilling after i sat my service course it payed for my kids education and my customers where like friends .But now we are being flooded by cheap Extinguishers from china all done to Australian standards its cheaper to buy a new one than a 9kg refill a new 9 kg ABE you can buy for $100 i was charging $95 for a recharge and extra $20 for a pressure test .I carry a 1kg BCF on my bike i love them when the army changed over they sold pellets of BCF to a scrap dealer he was getting them in the front door and selling them out the back door for $20.00 ,Illegal but he made a Mint cheers .if you google N Albury Book Shop Bomb you will see me on the roof with a line of 38mm Hose in Albury .

except spraying the valve stem is not proper lubrication, and causes lubrication to be pressurized into the chemical.
@MrGoliver5519
@MrGoliver5519 5 жыл бұрын
Chris Huffman I agree, with the exception that you are supposed to lubricate the collar o-ring and the small o-ring on the valve stem for the Amerex extinguisher being serviced. Amerex states that the valve stem seal should not be lubricated.
