Mobil 1 from Sam’s 6 quarts 33 bucks, Wix oil filter Walmart 12 bucks, plug 8 bucks Oreileys. All under 60 dollars and an hour of your time. Definitely worth doing yourself.

Beats the $250 VW will charge for the same work. What matters to me the most is that the oil and oil filter were actually changed. I’ve had bad experiences in the past where I paid for a service and they didn’t do it.

I recommend draining the oil and removing the filter when the oil is warm so more oil comes out. Also, your oil looked very dark. I recommend changing oil earlier maybe 7500 miles, with turbo you need to change oil more frequently to keep the turbo from wearing oiut.

I read somewhere you can replace your oil plug every 2 to 3 changes so i tried and low and behold it leaked. So from now on im going to replace it every time. I use Royal Purple oil by the way. Seems to work great.

Hey, great video. I was just wondering how to open the plastic cover of the engine. Could find the screw or clips. Thanks

The plastic cover that goes over the engine doesn't have any screws or clips, you just need to use some force to pull it up and it should come off.

You can extract oil from the dip dipstick tube so you don't have to lift the car

But won’t that plastic drain plug eventually break? Like my daughter’s thermostat assembly housing on her Jetta? Small oil leak over time. I’m changing the plug every time from here on out

Thanks for the video. I just did my 4th Tiguan oil change over the weekend. Here’s some constructive criticism: 1) Engine should be warm (not hot) so that the oil flows better and you can get more of it out of the engine. 2) You don’t need to put it on ramps or jack stands. You can reach the plug from under the car. 3) Remove the filler cap and dipstick when you drain the oil so it doesn’t get air locked in the engine. 4) After you get the oil draining from the oil pan, then remove the filter housing. This will allow more oil out quicker. 5) Give it plenty of time to drain out before you replace the drain plug. Go have a beer or eat lunch. You want a very slow drip before you put the plug back in. 6) Get as much of the old oil out of the plastic cartridge housing and the aluminum oil filter housing in the engine. This will take time, paper towels, and a screwdriver. Get as much out as possible. The anti drainback valve that sits in the middle of the paper cartridge can be pulled out of the engine filter housing to give better access. 7) Make sure all o-rings are lubed with fresh oil before reinstalling (anti drain back valve, plastic housing, drain plug). Dry o-rings can bind up during reassembly and get pinched so they won’t seal properly. 8) edit: Firmly press new cartridge filter into plastic housing (instead of resting it in the aluminum housing). You will hear/feel it snap in place. The cartridge will extend about 1/4” beyond the plastic housing and you’ll be able to lower this over the antidrainback valve. Before you screw the plastic cap and cartridge into the engine, pour about 1 quart into the aluminum oil filter housing to fill those internal passages. 9) After oil is changed and before reinstalling engine cover, turn engine on and let it run for about 5 minutes and observe for any leaks at drain plug and filter housing. 10) After checking for leaks, lower car off ramps and shut it off for a few minutes. Let oil drain back to oil pan while you reinstall engine cover, put away tools, have another beer. Then check dipstick. 6 quarts on my car only brings oil up to halfway on the dipstick. Note: Make sure the oil you use meets VW 508 specification. There are a few of these on the shelf at common auto parts stores. I use Mobil 1 ESP X2 0W-20. It costs around $60 for oil, filter and plug when they have it on special. Thanks again for the video 👍🏻 Edited to add step about cartridge installation and prefilling filter housing.

So I did my daughters yesterday. Used the Mobile 1 esp. was like what is this green oil. Had to do a double take at the jug to make sure I was putting motor oil in. CRAZY. Did not know drain plug was one time use. Was thinking to myself though, “I though oil degrades plastic?”. So I used the old one, Will monitor and change with next oil change. I also changed after 7k. Just can’t get my head around 10k oil changes. 7k even makes me cringe but that oil ain’t cheap lol

Funny thing I did mine yesterday too. I did it at 8k this time. I also feel weird waiting until 10k. I’ve been conditioned to think “every 3-5k miles”. Glad you enjoyed the video, blessings!

I'm thinking you had about 4 quarts of oil in your drain pan instead of 6. I'll bet that direct injection engine is burning oil. Maybe check oil levels weekly.

@@alinmatti786I have my 2024 R line for about 6 months and almost 5000 miles, and the car is missing about half a quart of oil, the car is leased, I still don’t know if I can return the car or not but I went from loving it to not liking it at all, there’s wayyyy more things than just this slight oil consumption

@samuelwh4775 for the most part it's not a bad car . My wife drives it all time . But burning oil is in the manual so they made it normal . Oh well it's a vw . Audi burns oil as well since they same brand. I'll let my wife use it as long as it drives .
