Remove a soldered CPU will require some very specialized tools. There are some videos that people talks about how to remove the CPU using heat gun. Again, it is not recommended if it is the first time that you are doing it. There is also tedious steps (like cleaning the contact points and reballing the board) for soldering on new CPUs. I don't have a list. A rule of thumb is that go for some bulky laptops instead of the ultrabook. A laptop that is advertising for long battery life tends to use U series chip, so also avoid those.

It really depends on the workload that you want to run on your laptop. For video editing or other multi threaded workload, you may want to use an i7. And if you are just using it to do some document editing and sometimes a bit demanding work, i5 should be good.

@@marus.haruki4719 It is possible to use external GPU. You would have to unplug your network card to get the PCIE port needed for the GPU. You will need an adaptor and a desktop power supply for that. There might be problems with the compatibility of the E-GPU. For the problem, I would guess the problem might be more likely to come from the monitor. Connect your device to an external monitor can be an easy check for your hardware. Hope that helps.

It would be fine to use the high power CPU without modifying the cooler. Modern CPU has throttling feature that limits the temperature. It's hard to find a aftermarket cooler for a laptop. If you can find one, go for it!
