Stand by Me, the Ben E. King classic has grossed more than any other dong in history except for only one other. That is probably the reason that my loop cover of the song using my Boss RC-30 goes down so well when I play it live!
Here is my tutorial of my version of the song so that you can play it for yourself. Please consider subscribing if you enjoy what I do :)

Hey Lee! I really, REALLY love your tutorials, they help a lot ! Would like to know you could make some videos with tips when creating your own loop based song, cuz i'm a solo artist and i'm kinda having a rought time making arrangements for my songs in the loop. Sorry for bad english, i'm actually brasilian xD
@leetownsend
@leetownsend 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Rafael. Thanks so much for your kind words man. With regards to looping originals, I would say that the best thing is to just try stuff and see how it sounds. Also, it would depend on what kind of thing you're writing. You might use a different kind of sound for a ballad as you would something you want people to dance to. I'll try to have a think for you though.

Great tutorial. Have a Digitech Jamman Stereo, but the RC-30 looks easier to operate the two channels. Keep these vids coming mate!
@leetownsend
@leetownsend 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment. I haven't ever used the Jamman but the RC-30 isn't the easiest out there either. I don't know if you've seen my review on the pedal but I explain a couple of issues I have with it on there. A start/stop all feature is definitely the most major thing that's missing for me. VERY tempted to get an RC-300 just for my KZfaq stuff and keep the RC-30 for live use as it's so much more portable.
@geekaymusic3809
@geekaymusic3809 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The RC 300 gives you the seperate channels with individual control...... nearly twice the price here in Sydney though. Would be keen to see some demos and covers with the 300 too. Are you using the OC-3 for bass lines?
@leetownsend
@leetownsend 7 жыл бұрын
Really? How strange that it'd be so much more expensive. Yeah, I do use the OC-3 for bass, it sounds great live. I go over my entire pedal board setup in a video at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5iYard6yKudXWw.html if you're interested in that.

But the singing part in loop is quite difficult
@leetownsend
@leetownsend 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you found it helpful. The harmonies are fairly high pitched but they're not actually that difficult once you have them clearly in your head. You can always elaborate and do your own thing there too. Sometimes, I throw in a guitar solo instead when I play live just to keep things interesting ;)

After your initial loop on the rhythm guitar (chords), was everything else just an overdub on channel 1? Did you have to set up that channel to repeat every *.* measure? I am new to the looping world, using the RC300, but learning how to have the loop begin on its own. Also, any strategies, or tips on what channels should contain the rhythm, which ones should contain the beat, and which ones should contain the "flair"? Sorry for the newbie questions, but I am trying to learn how to layer these things so you can "drop" them out when necessary
@leetownsend
@leetownsend 4 жыл бұрын
On this song, all of the first section is on one channel, yeah. The harmony vocal part towards the end goes on the second channel so that I can drop the first channel out. If you imagine you have band members playing each loop and you have a section where some of them stop playing, put those musicians on one track and keep them separate from the other one. Quite often, I have a loop arrangement thought out in my head before I pick up a guitar.

what pickup are you using
@andyl3933
@andyl3933 5 жыл бұрын
Thx for posting- 2 questions 1) I see a pickup in the sound hole but it looks like built in pickups as well ? - what are you using and why ? I’ve been looking at acoustics and I’m finding that the percussive hits are very low in volume when looped 2) why two mics ? - I see lots of guitar looper guys do this but why can’t you just sing the tune through the mic you used for the highhat sound ? Thx
@leetownsend
@leetownsend 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy, thanks for your comment and thanks for watching. I use a magnetic soundhole pickup and a built-in piezo pickup together. The reason is the percussive sounds are picked up more by the bridge so I can adjust the volume of that independently of the main sound for strumming chords. I use a separate mic for my lead vocals as the mic which is plugged into the looper can't be EQ'd differently to the guitar (they both go into the same channel on the desk). So really it's just so that I can get a better sound for my singing voice. Hope that all makes sense!

Hi Lee, which of your videos would you say would be best to attempt as a beginner to looping. I have the RC30. Sorry if you’ve been asked this a million times.
@leetownsend
@leetownsend Жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, I would definitely suggest starting with something that's using only one track. Dual track looping should be something you try once you have the basics down. To be honest, I haven't made any loop content for quite some time, but that'll be changing in the coming weeks. Maybe try something like Photograph by Ed Sheeran as the vast majority of that song is just 3 loops playing. You can find it at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftxmd6yS0N3WeGQ.html Keep a lookout for new loop content! Cheers!

I'd recommend everyone to get the RC300. The pedals aren't quite as nice but track management is so much more convenient

RC-600 is the new standard. RC-300 was discontinued when Boss released the new line of loopers.
@mattgee4867
@mattgee4867 Жыл бұрын
@@leetownsend yes of course. But if you're on a budget you can get a used rc300 and have so much more freedom with the track management alone, I think it's worth it.
@leetownsend
@leetownsend Жыл бұрын
Aaah, I see what you mean. If you're looking for something as complex as that, it's a great unit with a whole world of online presence to take inspiration from.
@mattgee4867
@mattgee4867 Жыл бұрын
@@leetownsend it's not really complex isn't it. The main advantage vs the rc30 I'm talking about is the third channel and convenient play/stop buttons for each track, omitting the extra step of holding the button to switch channels on the rc30. Just like the dedicated "All Play / Stop" button.

I think there are a couple of UK dealers but nothing really in mainland Europe. It seemed to be as soon as they announced that they'd been bought out by Saban Brands, they stopped dealing with Europe. Not only that, I reached out a few times via email and Facebook and they didn't give me any information on when or if they would resume shipping to us. Obviously they're only interested in looking after their own... Glad you like the video :)
