How to loop Free Falling using the Ditto x4 from TC Helicon.
Loop Pedal used: amzn.to/2tJSi2s
I created this video from a question/comment by Dovito3 Dovito3 as to how I would loop Free Falling using the Ditto x4, and what channels/loops I would record everything onto, and of course if it's possible - which yes it is!
I am to keep my rhythmic loops always on Loop 1, even if I start with another sequence, that way if I stress out or have a bit of a brain freeze, I always know which loop is where. Hope you dig it!

hi! all of the sounds/fx in this video are from the Voicelive 3 (I have it plugged in before the ditto and I'm using it for it's effects/settings). The looping is done entirely on the Ditto x4. you CAN create bass using just the ditto - it's a bit odd but possible - I did a video showing how to do it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q693p5N_vJa1las.html

Hey Sven - glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment - that way I know what might be more useful for next time! I'm tuned to Eb, so if you are in standard tuning (E), everything I play through this whole video just needs to be played 1 fret lower than where I'm playing it to match the sound. Does that make sense?

@davidshanhun How do you get that slightly overdriven sound when you play the lead? I’ve been looking for something like that for my pedalboard/acoustic.....????
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 2 жыл бұрын
hey Jason - I'm using the voicelive 3 in this for the overdriven sound - it's a slight boost/overdrive that's running on it with a delay also. Having said that I've gone back to individual pedals at the moment, and my two overdrive's that I use are the Tumnus (amzn.to/3uqVgXS) and the older version of this Fulltone pedal (amzn.to/39Qs43g). Essentially find an overdrive pedal with a tone you like and that's it! Seeing as it's an overall acoustic set I usually just set the drive reasonably low so it's not a crazy contrast in sound, but still stands out nicely.

using the ditto x4? Default settings for Loop 1 and Loop 2 knobs should be all the way around at 5pm (not 12pm as is commonly expected or shown in all their pics). Thank you for teaching guitar solo with loop pedal. Looking forward for your next lesson, more basic stuff, for example how to start with a simple chord as the backtrack. In this lesson, you seems selected 2 only, that's not all chords of that song, but it sounded beautiful. This means that player have a choice of using just 1 or 2 chords for a whole song! But which one(s)? Can you please share the secret? Thank you so much in advance!

Wish I could give you a better answer - I think it's something you may have issues with, or you may not... but it's a take the risk kind of purchase. Sadly I'm finding TC Helicon's support more and more to be below average. Wish it wasn't the case, but that's my experience at this point in time. In saying that - I really enjoy the pedal! The chords are Cadd9, then G (just without the bass as we're only playing the one note on the 5th string), then lastly a D chord - hammering on the note on the 1st string. Hope that helps! 👌

@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dov, that's ok. Only one output is going into the zoom recorder. Both the mono and the stereo output have the same signal - so you could choose either. Signal chain goes like this. Guitar -> OC3 (I forgot to turn it on though haha) -> VL3 (just so I could still use effects) -> split to stereo output from VL3 (both jack gets the same signal) -> both of these go into the ditto which are the two inputs you see. Out of the ditto one jack goes to my headphones so I can hear the loops, the other jack goes to the Zoom recorder. 👌

I have a question about this pedal. When in sync mode, do the two loopers match timing wise. What I mean is, if I start loop 2, wait until the third beat, and then start loop 1, will loop one come in on it's third beat as well? Or will it start from the beginning of it's loop?

There isn't noise from the electronics (that I've noticed of any sort). What sort of noise do you have? Hi, David. As first i must to tell you that you are really a great musician !!! And as second... i wanna to ask you. If you record for example 3 different record for one LOOP button. For example any beat, and after another sound. So its possible turn off only beat (first record) and another records will still playing ? Thank you for your answer.
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Petr. Unfortunately if you use only one loop button, you can only remove the very last thing you recorded. So if you recorded a beat first, then some guitar chords, then a bass line - you would only be able to remove the bass line as it is the last thing recorded. so it could be possible, if you recorded the guitar chords first, then a bass line or something, and then record the beat last. Pedals have an 'undo' and 'redo' function (for pretty much all loop pedals). so you can 'undo' the last recorded section, and then 'redo' it when you want it back in.

Hi Namgyal :) Congrats on getting the RC30 it's awesome! You'll be able to loop any of the stuff that I do on the ditto x4 or the VL3 that has two separate loops on the Rc30. :) Hope you're having fun playing around already!

Hey Connor. Thanks so much for asking - writing out TABS isn't really my thing, but I'd suggest using the slow down function that youtube gives you, and just picking up tiny bit by bit what I'm doing. Makes it super easy to see/hear at half speed! Just click on settings then 'speed'. You might need to be listening on a laptop rather than your phone tho. Hope that helps mate!

Hi David, why do you use ditto if there is a VL3 with the best 3 tracks looper?
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 4 жыл бұрын
I bought the ditto x4 as a back up looping unit, as I was having issues with my VL3. I think it's a superb 2 channel unit, and also nice and compact :) Mostly, it's sitting around as my back up unit, or if I want to be on battery power I have a way to run it!

@@davidshanhun Hello! I tried several loopers, now I use RC-30, but I came to the conclusion that there is only a ditto from the loopers of this price category for alternating verse / chorus. Now I'm waiting for the delivery of this device. I re-read the entire Internet, but did not find 2 things about ditto: 1. Is it possible, having recorded a loop while it is playing, to save it as a backing track and continue to work with the current track without stopping? 2. Looking at the current consumption of the ditto, I came to the conclusion that it can be powered by a 9 volt battery, could you share your way of feeding the ditto from the batteries? Thanks for the answers and for your channel, for me it is now like an encyclopedia :)

Hi sir do you have any tutorial looping using nux core delux?
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Voltaire, I don't have any videos specifically on the nux core delux. All of the concepts and ideas that I share should be able to be translated across to this pedal - but it might take a little bit of thinking as the way to actually do it will be slightly different from pedal to pedal. Is there anything in particular that I could help you with?

Is is possible to speed up the video by 1/12 after you record it? That would get rid of all the Eb tuning confusion? And I doubt it would be very noticeable during the talking.
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 5 жыл бұрын
definitely possible Matt, I know it can be a pain for some people, but I'm simply sharing what I do, and the Eb thing is part of that at the moment so leaving as is haha! I'm sure I've tripped up a few people that have looked at my fret position then it's sounded different though, so try to be a little aware of it and give it a mention!

haha classic! I think that's the beauty of KZfaq though - you can share what YOU do, and people can follow your channel if they wish. It's one of the things I love about it, I get the make the videos that I think are fun (and useful) haha. I was doing way too many shows where I was having people dictate what music I should or shouldn't play and I got over it real quick! I reckon it'd be great if you did lefty videos - there's a heap of lefty players that would appreciate them for sure, and the right handed players would appreciate the info, and just switch it around to be useful to them! :)

You said its frustrating pressing 2 separate pedals to start both channels together... Can you plug in an additional switch pedal, and assign it to an all start /all stop function? This is built in to the RC300, but I have reassigned that pedal to another function, and have a couple of switch pedals, one of which has that function assigned to it. It might sound complicated but Boss, in their infinite wisdom, put the all start/stop pedal right by the output volume control knob. Which I usually ended up knocking at least 3 or 4 times per set!

I would love to Aidan - in fact thinking I may have missed something I went and checked the pedal again, but sadly no, there is no option for a footswitch with the Ditto x4. That would have been superb and I likely would have switched back to individual pedals again haha! ...I'm keen to see what new loopers might appear in the next 6 months though of general companies development! How long has the Boss RC300 been out for now with no new upgrades or updates?

@@davidshanhun I've been doing shows with mine for around 18 months. I had the RC30 before but I got so frustrated with having so few pedals to control so many things, and the fact that all loops have to be the same length. I have changed the settings in my rc300 so that I can record a 4 beat/1 bar percussive loop on channel 1. Then you can have however long you want on both the other channels. Often I'll use an 8 or 16 bar riff or chord progression on channel 2. Then 4 or 5 part harmony vox loops on channel 3. These usually 4 or 8 bars. Good way to boost the dynamics towards the end of the track. Have a look at the most recent videos on my channel... I See Fire, and Rolling In The Deep. Once you try the RC300, you won't ever want anything else! (unless you can build a Chewie Monsta!). Happy to answer any questions if you want to know anything about it. Your videos are really good mate.

The other thing I did was reassign the effects pedal as a quick undo last overdub. Saves having to press and hold anything, it's instant. I don't use the inbuilt effects, they're not that great, so that button gets used for something far more useful

@@AidanMooreacoustic I'm super tempted to get the RC300... semi waiting to see if something new comes into the looping space though. I really like the TC helicon setup of being able to record any length any time, and dislike the size of the rc300 haha. Buuut it's getting more likely I will go down that path. Unless something new is introduced this year....? (fingers crossed). I'm certain some company will replicate something similar to Ed's Chewie Monsta in the reasonably close future! There's so many good features that each loop pedal has, but not quite the combo I want all in one yet! Thanks for letting me know how you've got it set up though - I appreciate that, and sounds like how I would most likely use it also. I'm definitely a fan of how customisable it is and remapping pedals like you mentioned!
